충남 태안군이 관내 해수욕장의 지속 가능성 제고와 효율적 운영을 위해 '선택과 집중' 전략을 추진한다. 

태안군은 지난달 말 열린 해수욕장협의회 회의에서 밧개, 안면, 백사장, 구름포, 백리포 등 5곳의 해수욕장에 대한 지정해제가 최종 확정됨에 따라 올해 총 22개의 해수욕장을 운영할 계획이라고, 밝혔다.

이번 조치는 태안 지역의 기존 해수욕장이 27곳에 달해 한정된 예산의 분산, 지원 인력 부족, 진입·출입 문제, 콘텐츠 및 기반시설 투자 제한 등의 문제를 해결하기 위한 것이다. 

군은 지난해 연구용역을 통해 해수욕장을 객관적으로 평가할 수 있는 32개 평가지표를 개발하고, 이를 바탕으로 해수욕장을 A(집중지원형), B(지속관리형), C(조정검토형) 세 등급으로 나눠 평가했다.

군은 또한 '2025 태안 방문의 해'를 맞아 해수욕장별 관광 콘텐츠 발굴과 상품 개발, 홍보 방안 마련 등을 진행할 예정이며, 지역 주민들과의 소통을 강화해 군민과 관광객 모두가 만족하는 '명품 해수욕장'을 만들어 나가겠다는 방침이다.

군 관계자는 “해수욕장 지정해제는 단순히 해수욕장을 축소하는 것이 아니라, 태안 해수욕장 관광 개발 방향을 새롭게 설정하는 것”이라며 “아름다운 바다를 보유한 태안군이 국내 최고의 휴양관광 도시로 발돋움할 수 있도록 지속적인 논의를 이어 나가겠다”고 말했다.
