충남 태안군이 올해 말 태안화력 1호기 폐지를 앞두고 한국서부발전 및 협력사와 함께 지역사회에 미치는 영향을 최소화하기 위한 공동 대응에 나섰다. 

지난 25일 태안읍 한국서부발전 본사에서 열린 ‘체계적이고 질서있는 에너지전환 공동대응 다짐행사’에는 가세로 군수와 한국서부발전 이정복 사장을 비롯한 100여 명의 관계자들이 참석했다.

이번 행사에서는 태안화력 1호기 폐지에 따른 지역경제 침체와 근로자 고용불안 문제를 우려하여 전문가 발표와 정부 지원 사업 설명이 진행됐다. 

7개 기관 대표들이 참여한 결의문 서명도 이루어져, 에너지 전환 과정에서 근로자의 안정적 일자리 확보 및 지역 인구 감소 최소화에 힘쓰기로 다짐했다.

태안군은 한국서부발전 사업부사장과 부군수를 공동위원장으로 하는 워킹그룹을 운영하여 지역경제 피해를 줄이는 방안을 모색하고, 무탄소 에너지 사업에 힘을 모으기로 했다. 

그러나 태안화력 6호기까지 폐지 예정인 태안군은 대체 발전소가 타 지역에 건설될 예정이어서 경제위기와 지역 소멸 우려가 커지고 있다.

이에 군은 1.96GW 규모의 해상풍력발전단지 조성과 태안화력의 무탄소 발전소 전환을 추진하며 대체 산업단지 조성을 검토하고 있다. 

가세로 군수는 지역 피해 최소화를 위한 협의체 활동과 지원 법안 제정 등 전방위적 노력을 기울이고 있다고 밝혔다.

Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, is working with Korea Western Power and its partners to minimize the impact on the local community ahead of the closure of Taean Thermal Power Plant Unit 1 at the end of this year.

About 100 people, including County Mayor Ga Se-ro and Korea Western Power President Lee Jeong-bok, attended the ‘Systematic and Orderly Energy Transition Joint Response Pledge Event’ held at the Korea Western Power headquarters in Taean-eup on the 25th.

At this event, experts gave presentations and explained government support projects to address concerns about the local economic downturn and job insecurity for workers due to the closure of Taean Thermal Power Plant Unit 1.

A resolution was signed by representatives of seven organizations, pledging to work to secure stable jobs for workers and minimize the decrease in local population during the energy transition process.

Taean-gun decided to operate a working group co-chaired by the Vice President of Korea Western Power and the Deputy County Mayor to seek ways to reduce damage to the local economy and to join forces in carbon-free energy projects.

However, Taean County, which is scheduled to close down Taean Thermal Power Plant Unit 6, is facing growing concerns about an economic crisis and regional extinction as replacement power plants are planned to be built in other regions.

Accordingly, the county is considering building a 1.96 GW offshore wind power plant and converting Taean Thermal Power Plant to a carbon-free power plant, as well as building a replacement industrial complex.

Governor Ga Se-ro said that he is making all-out efforts, including working on a consultative body to minimize damage to the region and enacting support laws.
