충남 계룡시가 단순한 배움에서 멈추지 않고, 그 결실을 지역사회와 나누는 '실천형 평생학습'의 새 지평을 연다. 시는 시민들이 직접 학습 주제를 발굴해 지역의 가려운 곳을 긁어주는 ‘평생학습 실천 프로젝트’ 주인공들을 모집한다고 3일 밝혔다.

이번 사업은 기존의 평생교육이 개인의 취미나 여가에 머물렀던 한계를 과감히 탈피했다. 시민이 주도적으로 학습하고 이를 지역사회 기여로 확장하는 이른바 '학습-실천-나눔'의 선순환 구조를 정착시키는 데 중점을 뒀다. 문화와 예술은 물론 인문, 환경, IT 등 분야를 가리지 않고 지역 현안과 맞닿은 주제라면 무엇이든 지원 대상으로 선정 가능하다. 

시는 총 24개의 학습 공동체를 선정해 팀당 60만 원의 활동비를 제공할 예정이다. 강사비나 교재비 같은 기초 학습비는 물론, 결과물을 지역과 나누는 데 필요한 재료비와 운영비, 홍보 비용 등으로 예산을 폭넓게 활용할 수 있다. 19세 이상 계룡시민 5명 이상이 모인 모임이라면 누구나 도전장을 내밀 수 있다.

사업은 지역의 고질적인 문제를 학습을 통해 풀어내는 '배워서 바꿀계룡', 자신이 익힌 재능을 이웃에게 돌려주는 '배워서 나눌계룡', 주민 스스로 실행력을 갖춰 나가는 '배워서 해볼계룡'의 세 가지 모델로 운영된다. 

시 관계자는 시민의 배움이 개인의 성장을 넘어 지역의 긍정적인 변화를 이끄는 마중물이 된다는 점이 이번 사업의 큰 의미라고 말하며, 지속 가능한 학습 공동체를 조성하기 위해 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다는 뜻을 전했다.
