아산시가 순천향대학교와 함께 ‘AI 의료융합’의 글로벌 중심지로 거듭나기 위한 담대한 도전에 나섰다. 

오세현 아산시장은 지난 2일 순천향대학교 인간사랑관 대강당에서 열린 ‘건학 48주년 기념 글로컬대학 비전 선포식’에 참석해 강력한 상생 의지를 다졌다.

지자체와 교육계, 산업계 인사 400여 명이 모인 이날 행사에서 순천향대는 교육부 글로컬대학 선정을 기점으로 한 미래 청사진을 가감없이 공개했다.

순천향대의 핵심 전략은 ‘AI 의료융합 글로벌 수도'를 만드는 것이다. 아산과 천안, 내포를 하나의 거대한 연구·실증 축으로 묶는 ‘AI 의료융합 Triangle 캠퍼스’를 통해 강의실에 머물던 지식이 산업 현장에서 상용화로 직결될 수 있는 기반을 조성한다. 

이러한 움직임은 그간 아산시가 공들여온 미래 먹거리 전략과도 일맥상통한다. 시는 바이오·헬스케어 산업 육성과 청년 창업 기반 확충 등 지역의 기초 체력을 키우는 데 주력해 왔다.

전문가들은 글로컬대학 사업이 본격화되면 지역에서 배출한 전문 인력이 유망 기업으로 유입되고, 양질의 일자리 창출과 정주 여건 개선으로 이어지는 선순환 고리가 만들어질 것으로 내다봤다. 

순천향대학교의 글로컬 선정은 아산의 도시 경쟁력을 한 단계 끌어올리는 계기가 될 것으로 보인다. 시 또한 대학의 혁신이 지역 발전으로 연결될 수 있도록 뒷받침을 아끼지 않겠다는 입장이다. 

아산시는 앞으로도 순천향대학교와 상시 협력 체계를 가동해, 지역 산업의 체질을 개선하고 대한민국을 대표하는 AI 의료 거점을 완성해 나갈 계획이라고 밝혔다.

Asan Mayor Oh Se-hyun attended the ‘Glocal University Vision Proclamation Ceremony Commemorating the 48th Anniversary of Founding,’ held on the 2nd at the main auditorium of Soonchunhyang University’s Human Love Hall, and reaffirmed his strong commitment to mutual growth. At the event, attended by approximately 400 figures from local government, the education sector, and industry, Soonchunhyang University candidly unveiled its future blueprint, starting with its selection as a Glocal University by the Ministry of Education.

Soonchunhyang University’s core strategy is to create a ‘Global Capital of AI Medical Convergence.’ Through the ‘AI Medical Convergence Triangle Campus,’ which links Asan, Cheonan, and Naepo into a single massive axis of research and demonstration, a foundation is being established to ensure that knowledge previously confined to the classroom can be directly translated into commercialization in the industrial field. The plan is to put the so-called ‘Co-evolution model,’ which enables mutual growth between the university and the local community, on the right track.

This move aligns with the future growth strategies that Asan City has been diligently pursuing. The city has focused on strengthening the region's fundamental capabilities by fostering the bio and healthcare industries and expanding the foundation for youth startups. Experts predict that once the Glocal University project is fully underway, skilled professionals produced in the region will be drawn into promising companies, creating a virtuous cycle that leads to the creation of high-quality jobs and improved living conditions.

Soonchunhyang University’s selection as a Glocal University is expected to serve as a watershed moment that elevates Asan’s urban competitiveness to the next level. The city also maintains that it will spare no effort in supporting the university to ensure that its innovation translates into regional development. Asan City announced that it plans to continue operating a constant cooperation system with Soonchunhyang University to improve the fundamental structure of local industries and complete the establishment of a leading AI medical hub representing South Korea.
