충남 아산시가 중소벤처기업부 주관 ‘지역 주도형 인공지능(AI) 대전환 사업’ 공모에 최종 선정되며 대한민국 제조 AI 거점 도시로의 도약에 나선다. 

이번 선정으로 아산시는 국비 140억 원을 확보했으며, 충청남도 및 천안시와 협력해 2027년까지 총 298억 원 규모의 대규모 프로젝트를 가동한다고 1일 밝혔다.

아산시는 지역 내 밀집한 반도체, 디스플레이, 모빌리티 등 핵심 산업군을 중심으로 AI 기술을 전격 도입한다. 

단순히 시설을 자동화하는 수준을 넘어, 인공지능이 스스로 공정을 최적화하고 제품의 품질을 예측하는 '자율 제어 시스템' 구축을 지원하는 것이 핵심이다. 이를 통해 중소 제조기업들이 겪어온 공정상의 난제를 해결하고 스마트 공장의 고도화를 이끌어낼 계획이다.

AI 실행력을 뒷받침할 든든한 기초 인프라도 마련된다. 고성능 그래픽 처리 장치(GPU) 기반의 컴퓨팅 환경과 제조 데이터를 효율적으로 다룰 수 있는 테스트베드를 조성해 기업들의 기술 활용 문턱을 낮춘다.

아울러 산업 현장의 수요에 맞는 전문 인력 확보에도 공을 들인다. 재직자뿐만 아니라 학생과 구직자를 대상으로 한 실무형 AI 교육 프로그램을 운영해, 지역 산업계가 필요로 하는 맞춤형 인재를 체계적으로 배출할 방침이다.

아산시는 이번 사업이 중소 제조기업의 경쟁력을 높여 매출 증대로 이어지는 선순환 구조를 만들 것으로 기대하고 있다.

Asan City Secures 14 Billion Won in State Funding for 'Region-Led AI Transformation Project'

Asan City in South Chungcheong Province is poised to take a leap forward as a hub for manufacturing AI in Korea after being finally selected for the 'Region-Led AI Transformation Project' competition organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

With this selection, Asan City has secured 14 billion won in state funding and announced on the 1st that it will launch a large-scale project worth a total of 29.8 billion won by 2027 in cooperation with South Chungcheong Province and Cheonan City.

Asan City plans to fully introduce AI technology centered on key industrial sectors concentrated within the region, such as semiconductors, displays, and mobility.

The core of the initiative is to support the establishment of 'autonomous control systems' that go beyond mere facility automation; instead, AI will independently optimize processes and predict product quality. Through this, the city plans to resolve process challenges faced by small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises and drive the advancement of smart factories.

Solid foundational infrastructure to underpin AI implementation will also be established. The project aims to lower the barrier to technology adoption for companies by establishing a testbed capable of efficiently handling manufacturing data and utilizing high-performance Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)-based computing environments.

Furthermore, significant effort is being made to secure specialized personnel tailored to the demands of the industrial sector. The plan is to systematically produce customized talent required by the local industry by operating practical AI training programs for not only current employees but also students and job seekers.

Asan City expects this project to create a virtuous cycle that enhances the competitiveness of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies, leading to increased sales.
