107년 전 상하이의 좁은 방 한 칸에서 피어오른 ‘민주공화국’의 꿈이 2026년 대전의 봄볕 아래 다시금 선명해졌다. 

광복회 대전시지부 주관으로 10일 오전 옛 충남도청사에서 열린 ‘제107주년 대한민국임시정부 수립 기념식’은 단순한 행사를 넘어, 우리 민족의 뿌리를 확인하고 호국보훈의 가치를 되새기는 뜨거운 결집의 장이었다.

기념식의 무대가 된 옛 충남도청사는 세월의 흔적을 고스란히 간직한 채 애국선열들의 숭고한 희생을 묵묵히 증언했다. 

이장우 대전시장은 단상에 올라 조국 독립을 위해 일생을 바친 선열들을 향해 깊은 경의를 표했다. 

이 시장은 대전은 독립운동의 정신이 도시 곳곳에 스며있는 자긍심 높은 호국보훈 도시라고 정의하며, 과거의 역사가 박제된 기억이 아닌 시민들의 일상 속에서 살아 숨 쉬는 가치가 되어야 함을 역설했다.

또한 독립유공자에 대한 예우를 단순한 복지 차원을 넘어 국가의 당연한 책무로 규정했다. 

아울러 역사적 기억이 흐릿해지지 않도록 보훈 문화를 확산하고, 선열들의 뜻이 대전의 미래 세대에게 오롯이 전달될 수 있도록 모든 행정력을 집중하겠다는 의지를 분명히 했다. 

양준영 광복회 대전시지부장을 비롯한 참석자들 역시 엄숙한 분위기 속에서 임시정부가 놓은 민주공화제의 초석 위에 오늘의 대한민국이 서 있음을 다시금 확인했다.

역사를 잊은 민족에게 미래가 없다는 격언은 오늘 대전에서 '역사를 기억하는 도시가 찬란한 미래를 연다'는 확신으로 치환됐다.
