공주시 유구읍에서 해마다 열리는 ‘유구수국축제’가 또다시 지역 주민들의 불만 속에 도마 위에 올랐다. 축제가 애초 목적이었던 지역 경제 활성화는커녕 외지 상인만의 잔치로 변질됐다는 비판이 거세지고 있으면서 지역민들의 원성이 공주시를 향하고 있다.

지역민들이 가장 크게 반발하는 대목은 이중잣대식 행정이다. 한 주민은 “유구읍민에게는 하천법 위반이라며 정원 내 장사를 못하게 하면서, 외지 상인은 농지법 위반 소지가 있음에도 묵인하고 있다”며 “공주시가 과연 외지 상인들의 영업이 적법한 절차를 거쳤는지 투명하게 밝혀야 한다”고 촉구했다.
