내포신도시의 상징이자 도민들의 쉼터인 홍예공원이 단순한 산책로를 넘어 가족과 문화, 자연이 공존하는 체류형 공간으로 새롭게 태어났다. 

 

충남도는 18일, 가족 중심의 테마 공간으로 단장을 마친 홍예공원을 도민들에게 임시 개방한다고 예고했다.

 

당초 2026년 9월 준공을 목표로 추진되던 홍예공원 명품화 사업은 도민들의 높은 기대감을 반영해 물놀이 시설 등 일부 마무리 공사가 필요한 곳을 제외한 전 구간을 조기에 개방하게 됐다. 

 

새로워진 홍예공원은 이용객의 목적에 따라 선택할 수 있도록 패밀리파크, 웅비광장, 자미원 등 3개 구역으로 세분화되었다.

 

가장 눈길을 끄는 ‘패밀리파크’ 구역은 젊은 층이 많은 신도시의 특성을 반영해 아이들의 놀이 공간에 공을 들였다. 

 

10m 높이의 거대한 놀이 타워를 갖춘 어린이 놀이터와 난파선 형태의 조합 놀이대, 워터 터널 등이 설치된 물놀이터가 조성되어 역동적인 활동이 가능하다. 

 

특히 사계절 이용할 수 있는 대형 트램펄린과 스케이트 파크, 시원한 인공 폭포는 가족 단위 방문객들에게 큰 인기를 끌 것으로 보인다.

 

축구장 약 2배 규모에 달하는 ‘웅비광장’은 대형 야외 무대를 중심으로 조성된 열린 공간이다. 

 

탁 트인 잔디밭에서 피크닉을 즐기거나 다양한 공연을 관람할 수 있는 휴식과 소통의 장으로 활용된다. 

 

마지막으로 ‘자미원’ 구역은 장미원, 수국원, 야생초화원 등 화려한 테마 정원을 배치하고 이를 조망할 수 있는 홍예 쉼터를 설치해 고즈넉한 힐링 공간으로 꾸몄다.

 

홍예공원의 경관을 완성한 것은 전국 각지의 도민 1,432명과 단체가 자발적으로 참여한 ‘도민 참여 숲’ 사업이다. 

 

공원 곳곳에는 홍성 산불을 견뎌낸 느티나무 상징목을 비롯해 정이품송 후계목, 성삼문 오동나무 등 역사적 의미가 깊은 수목들이 자리 잡았다. 

 

참여자들의 소중한 뜻은 공원 내 ‘기부자의 벽’에 영구히 기록된다.

 

테마형 산책로 역시 걷는 즐거움을 선사한다. 맨발 황톳길을 시작으로 느티나무, 소나무, 왕벚나무, 메타세쿼이아길 등 각기 다른 매력을 가진 숲길이 조성됐으며 수암폭포와 계류가 어우러져 시원한 수경관을 완성했다. 

 

또한 멸종위기종 가시연과 천연기념물 수달 가족이 서식하는 것으로 확인되면서 공원의 생태적 가치 또한 높게 평가받고 있다.

 

충남도는 홍예공원을 단순한 공원을 넘어 주변 문화 시설과 연계된 복합 문화 공간으로 키워나갈 방침이다. 

 

인근 충남도서관과 협업한 야외 독서 프로그램을 운영하고, 향후 개관 예정인 미술관(2027년) 및 예술의전당(2029년)과 손잡고 야외 전시와 대규모 공연을 지속적으로 확대할 계획이다.
