대전 동구가 인동장터 독립만세운동 기념행사를 열고 지역 독립운동의 의미를 되새겼다.

대전 동구는 16일 인동 만세로 광장에서 ‘제23회 인동장터 독립만세운동 기념행사’를 열고 지역 주민과 학생, 보훈단체 관계자 등 약 500여 명이 참석한 가운데 행사를 마무리했다.

참석자들은 인동장터에서 시작된 항일 독립만세운동의 역사적 의미를 공유하며 순국선열의 희생과 헌신을 기리는 데 마음을 모았다.

기념식은 국민의례와 내빈 소개를 시작으로 3·1절 노래 합창, 기미독립선언서 낭독, 기념사와 인사말, 독립군가 합창, 만세운동 퍼포먼스, 만세삼창 순으로 진행됐다.

특히 지역 초등학생들이 참여한 플래시몹 형식의 만세 퍼포먼스는 당시 장터에 울려 퍼졌던 ‘대한독립만세’의 함성을 현대적으로 재구성해 큰 박수를 받았다.

행사장 한편에서는 ‘이달의 독립운동가’ 전시와 함께 태극기 바람개비 만들기, 태극기 페이스페인팅, 태극기 가방고리·키링 만들기 등 체험 부스가 운영됐다.

가족 단위 방문객과 어린이들이 프로그램에 적극 참여하면서 인동장터는 하나의 야외 역사 교육 공간이자 지역 축제의 장으로 변신했다.

박희조 동구청장은 “인동장터에서 울려 퍼졌던 독립의 외침이 오늘 우리가 누리는 자유와 번영의 밑거름이 됐다”며 “지역의 소중한 독립운동 역사를 널리 알리고, 미래 세대가 나라사랑 정신을 자연스럽게 배우도록 지원을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.

인동장터 독립만세운동은 1919년 3월 인동시장 일대에서 주민들이 주도해 전개한 항일 만세시위로, 대전 지역 만세운동의 시발점 가운데 하나로 평가된다.

동구는 매년 기념행사를 열어 인동장터의 역사를 재조명하고, 지역에 뿌리 내린 독립운동 정신을 현재와 미래 세대에 잇는 계기로 삼고 있다.
