충남 천안시가 시정의 핵심 가치인 ‘성장’을 구체화하기 위해 도시 경쟁력을 결정지을 주요 인프라 건설 현장을 찾아 대대적인 점검을 벌였다. 

이를 위해 천안시는 10일 김석필 천안시장 권한대행 부시장이 지역의 중장기 발전을 이끌 4개 주요 사업장을 방문해 추진 현황을 살피고 실행력 제고를 당부했다고 밝혔다.

이번 현장 행보는 기술혁신 거점 조성과 광역교통망 확충, 원도심 활성화 등 천안의 지도를 바꿀 핵심 프로젝트들을 종합적으로 관리하기 위해 기획됐다.

가장 먼저 방문한 ‘천안아산역 R&D 집적지구’에서 김 권한대행은 충남제조기술융합센터와 국제전시컨벤션센터의 단계적 입주 상황을 점검했다. 그는 이곳이 천안의 미래 산업을 견인할 전략적 요충지임을 강조하며, 연구와 전시, 기업 지원 기능이 하나로 맞물려 시너지를 낼 수 있도록 철저한 마무리를 지시했다.

이어 22년이라는 긴 시간 동안 임시 역사로 남았던 ‘천안역사 증·개축’ 공사 현장을 찾았다. 총 1,121억 원이 투입되어 2028년 완공 예정인 이 사업은 천안의 관문을 상징적인 공간으로 재탄생시키는 대공사다. 현장에서 김 권한대행은 천안역이 단순한 철도 시설을 넘어 원도심 재생의 기폭제가 될 수 있도록 꼼꼼한 공정 관리를 주문했다.

원도심의 새로운 모델을 제시할 ‘봉명지구 도시재생 뉴딜’ 현장에서는 ‘꿈꾸는 레일웨이 존’ 건립 상황을 집중 확인했다. 시는 통합돌봄센터 등 기존 시설과 연계해 돌봄과 창업이 공존하는 선순환 구조를 만들 방침이다. 

마지막으로 방문한 ‘성환혁신지구’는 2031년까지 산업과 주거가 어우러진 북부권 거점으로 육성되는 대형 프로젝트로, 국가시범지구 공모 선정의 취지에 걸맞은 차질 없는 추진이 강조됐다.

김석필 권한대행은 “도시의 성장은 구호에 그치는 것이 아니라 실질적인 기반을 닦는 과정에서 시작된다”며 “R&D 인프라와 교통망, 혁신지구 조성을 통해 미래 세대를 위한 도시의 틀을 착실히 다져나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
