충남 서산시가 국토교통부·항공안전기술원 주관 '2026년 드론 실증도시 구축사업'에 전국 최초로 6년 연속 선정됐다. 이를 통해 국비 1억 1000만 원을 확보하며 드론 배송 서비스를 한층 고도화한다.

서산시는 이미 고파도·우도·분점도 등 가로림만 섬과 벌천포해수욕장·삼길포 낚시터에서 드론 배송을 상용화 중이다. 

지난해 7월 시작된 서비스는 올해 3월부터 확대됐으며, 기존 금·토·일 오후 6시 운영을 상반기 내 야간으로 연장한다. 섬 주민들은 “비상식품·의약품이 10분 만에 도착해 생명줄”이라며 호평한다.

올해 핵심은 악천후 대응 실증이다. 강풍·비 속에서도 드론이 안정적으로 화물을 전달하도록 테스트하며, 드론 부품 4종 국산화로 국내 산업 생태계 강화도 노린다. 

서산시 관계자는 “관광객 편의와 섬 지역 격차 해소를 동시에 이루겠다”고 밝혔다.

Seosan City, South Chungcheong Province, has been selected for the "2026 Drone Test City Construction Project," hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Aviation Safety Technology Institute, for the sixth consecutive year, becoming the first city in the nation to do so. This project will secure KRW 110 million in national funding and further enhance drone delivery services.

Seosan City is already commercializing drone delivery on Garorim Bay islands such as Gopa Island, Udo Island, and Bunjeom Island, as well as Beolcheonpo Beach and Samgilpo Fishing Spot.

The service, which began in July of last year, expanded in March of this year. The existing 6 PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday service will be extended to nighttime hours within the first half of the year. Island residents have praised the service, saying, "Emergency food and medicine arrive in just 10 minutes, a lifeline."

This year's focus is on demonstrating response to inclement weather. Drones are being tested to ensure stable cargo delivery even in strong winds and rain, and the domestic production of four drone components also aims to strengthen the domestic industrial ecosystem.

A Seosan City official stated, "We will simultaneously achieve tourist convenience and bridge the gap between island regions."
