대전시가 스페인 말라가에서 열린 세계경제과학도시연합(GINI) 총회에서 제2대 회장도시로 만장일치 재선출됐다. 창립 주도 후 2년간 리더십을 이어가며 상설 사무국도 대전에 유치한다.

25일(현지) 고위급 대표자 회의에 대전·말라가·도르트문트·퀘벡주·시애틀·몽고메리카운티 대표가 참석했다. 회원 도시들은 대전의 리더십을 인정하며 재신임을 결정했다.

‘GINI R&D 라운드테이블’에서 반도체·바이오·양자 공동 연구를 논의했다. 충남대 AI 심포지엄에는 KAIST·프라운호퍼·이바도(IVADO)가 참여해 구체적 협력을 모색했다.

최성아 정무경제과학부시장은 “회원 신뢰에 보답해 GINI를 실질적 경제 플랫폼으로 키우겠다”고 수락 연설했다. 말라가 알리시아 이스퀴에르도 부시장은 “아시아-유럽-북미 연결 강화를 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

대전시는 이를 계기로 회원 간 경제·과학 프로젝트를 추진할 계획이다.

Daejeon City Re-elected as Second President of the Global Initiative for Science and Technology (GINI)

Daejeon was unanimously re-elected as the second president of the Global Initiative for Science and Technology (GINI) at the General Assembly held in Malaga, Spain. Following its founding, Daejeon will continue its leadership for two years and will also host the permanent secretariat.

On the 25th (local time), representatives from Daejeon, Malaga, Dortmund, Quebec, Seattle, and Montgomery County attended the high-level representatives' meeting. The member cities recognized Daejeon's leadership and voted to renew their confidence.

At the "GINI R&D Roundtable," joint research in semiconductors, biotechnology, and quantum computing was discussed. KAIST, Fraunhofer, and IVADO participated in the Chungnam National University AI Symposium to explore concrete cooperation.

Choi Seong-ah, Vice Mayor for Political Affairs, Economics, and Science, delivered her acceptance speech, saying, "In return for the trust our members have placed in us, we will develop GINI into a practical economic platform." Malaga Deputy Mayor Alicia Izquierdo stated, "We will support strengthening the connection between Asia, Europe, and North America."

Daejeon City plans to use this opportunity to promote economic and scientific projects among its members.
