성광진 대전광역시교육감 예비후보가 과학도시 대전의 인프라를 집약해 대전을 대한민국 최고의 ‘AI 교육혁신도시’로 탈바꿈하겠다는 포부를 밝혔다.

성 예비후보는 23일 정책 발표회를 통해 AI 교육을 단순한 선택의 문제를 넘어선 ‘교육 체제의 근본적 전환’으로 규정했다. 

그는 대덕연구개발특구의 정부출연연구기관과 첨단기업, KAIST 등 세계적 수준의 대학 자원을 교육 현장과 밀착 연결하여, 지역에서 배운 인재가 지역 산업에 기여하는 ‘성장 선순환 구조’를 완성하겠다는 구상을 내놓았다.

이번 공약의 핵심은 실무 중심의 인프라 구축으로, 성 예비후보는 기존 특성화고를 AI, 데이터, 반도체, 로봇, 소프트웨어 중심으로 고도화하는 동시에, AI 특화 신설학교를 건립하여 이를 산업 연계 교육의 거점으로 삼겠다고 약속했다.

특히 기업 연계 실습센터를 운영하고 산학 협력 프로젝트 수업을 강화함으로써, 학생들이 졸업 후 곧바로 현장에 투입될 수 있는 실질적인 취업 경쟁력을 갖추도록 지원할 방침이다. 

이와 더불어 초·중·고 전 단계에서 AI 중점학교를 확대해 모든 학생이 미래 사회의 필수 소양인 데이터 문해력을 갖출 수 있는 환경을 조성하겠다고 덧붙였다.

성 예비후보가 제시한 AI 교육의 차별점은 ‘기술’과 ‘인간’의 조화에 있다. 

그는 AI 시대일수록 문제의 본질을 꿰뚫는 ‘질문의 힘’이 중요하다고 강조하며, AI 프로그래밍과 데이터 분석 등 기술 교육에 철학, 역사, 토론 등 인문학적 소양 교육을 병행하겠다는 계획을 밝혔다.

이에 따라 평가 방식 또한 기존의 지필 고사 중심에서 탈피하여, 프로젝트 수행 능력과 비판적 사고력을 측정하는 방향으로 혁신하겠다는 전략으로, 2025년에 도입된 AI 디지털 교과서를 적극 활용해 학생 개별 맞춤형 학습 관리 체계를 공고히 하겠다는 구체적인 로드맵도 제시했다.

지역 경제와의 상생을 위한 대책도 포함되었다. 특성화고 졸업생이 지역 유망 기업에 취업할 수 있도록 인턴십과 현장 실습을 강화하고, 지역 대학과 연계하여 일과 학습을 병행할 수 있는 진로 경로를 다양화할 예정이다.

또한, 현장 교육의 질을 높이기 위해 교사를 대상으로 한 AI 및 산업체 연수를 정례화하고, AI 보조 시스템을 도입해 교사의 업무 부담을 줄이면서 학생들에게는 더욱 세밀한 맞춤형 지도가 이루어지도록 지원할 계획이다.

성광진 예비후보는 “대덕특구라는 천혜의 자원을 가진 대전은 AI 교육을 실현할 최적의 장소”라며 “대전을 대한민국 AI 교육의 1번지로 만들어 교육이 산업을 견인하고, 인재가 지역을 성장시키는 미래 교육 모델을 반드시 실현하겠다”고 역설했다.
