충남 청양군이 국가를 위해 헌신한 유공자들을 예우하고 존중하는 문화를 조성하기 위해 군 청사 내에 '국가유공자 우선주차구역'을 마련해 운영에 들어갔다.

이번 조치는 지난해 11월 제정된 '청양군 국가유공자 우선주차구역 설치 및 운영에 관한 조례'에 따른 것으로, 군청 청사 내 1면의 우선주차구역 설치가 완료됐다. 

조례에 따르면, 군청과 소속 기관, 군이 관리하는 공공기관 중 주차단위구획이 50면 이상인 곳에는 최소 1개 이상의 국가유공자 전용 주차구역을 마련하도록 권고하고 있다.

해당 주차구역 이용 대상은 독립유공자, 국가유공자, 참전유공자, 고엽제 후유증 환자, 특수임무유공자 등 '국가유공자 등 예우 및 지원에 관한 법률'에 따라 인정된 유공자들이다.

김돈곤 청양군수는 "국가유공자들의 희생과 헌신을 기리기 위한 이번 조치가 정착될 수 있도록 군민 여러분의 협조와 양보를 부탁드린다"며, "앞으로도 국가유공자를 예우하고 지원하는 다양한 정책을 확대해 나가겠다"고 밝혔다.

한편, 청양군은 올해부터 국가유공자와 그 유족들에게 분기별 180리터의 종량제봉투를 무상 지급하고 있다. 기존에는 기초생활수급자에게만 제공되던 혜택이었으나, 국가를 위해 희생한 이들의 공로를 기리기 위해 지원 대상을 확대했다.
