[Daejeon City to promote Seodaejeon Overpass underground road without closure]

It is a plan to promote the underground construction of the Seodaejeon Overpass, which is being promoted by Daejeon City in connection with the subway line 2 tram construction project, without closing the road.

The city of Daejeon announced that it plans to implement the underground passage without closing Gyebaek-ro by first constructing an underground passage before the demolition of the Seodaejeon Overpass.

The Seodaejeon Overpass Underground Construction is a project to demolish the Seodaejeon Overpass and build an underpass with a length of 687m and a width of 46m at the bottom of the Honam Line railway. Is expected.

The Seodaejeon Overpass (Gyebaek-ro), which is to be demolished, is a main road that runs in the east-west direction of Daejeon, and 10 bus routes pass through it. It was analyzed to be worth about 17.3 billion won.
As a result of a multi-pronged review, Daejeon City decided to minimize the traffic congestion caused by the overpass demolition by first constructing a part of the underpass structure under the Honam Line railway to secure two lanes and sidewalks for each up and down.

At the same time, he also announced the idea of trying to reduce the cost of social losses due to traffic congestion during construction by planning and maintaining short-distance and long-distance routes that bypass the underground construction section of Seodaejeon Overpass.

The Seodaejeon Overpass is an old bridge that was completed in 1970 and is more than 50 years old. It is a place where complaints about the construction of the underground continued, such as noise from passing overpasses around apartment houses, deterioration of downtown aesthetics, and traffic jams due to bottleneck sections (6 lanes). .

The central government demanded that only two trams be underground and the Seodaejeon Overpass remains.

However, the city of Daejeon continued to dismantle the overpass and to make all sections underground for the purpose of resolving traffic congestion and ensuring the safety of citizens due to the aging of the overpass. Daejeon City is currently carrying out basic and detailed design services.

Meanwhile, the Daejeon Metro Line 2 tram construction project has a total length of 37.8 km, 37 stations, and 1 vehicle depot.
