[Congressman Lee Sang-min reveals opposition to the expansion of Daejeon Combined Heat and Power Plant...]

In addition, Democratic Party member Lee Sang-min (5th line, Daejeon Yuseong) stated that he in principle opposes the expansion of facilities at the Daejeon Cogeneration Power Plant, which is controversial in the region.

Rep. Lee, who visited the press room of the Daejeon City Council on the 24rd to convey his position on the controversy over the Daejeon cogeneration power plant, expressed his disagreement on the day and expressed an uncomfortable look at Daejeon City's actions.

Congressman Lee first said that the Daedeok-gu and Yuseong-gu issues are a pending issue. Regarding the controversy, Lee said, "I met the pros and cons among the residents." It wasn't proved,” he said.

Rep. Lee said at the party-political council held with the city of Daejeon last time, "In the era of resident autonomy, you should go as the residents do, and you should not go along with administrative convenience while asking for the will of the residents or as if asking for a formal will." He said he had revealed through remarks.
At the same time, he pointed out that "Daejeon City, the business owners, and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy did not seem to have resolved this when they heard the opinions of the opposing residents," and said, "(I) think that we cannot proceed without resolving the residents' worries about opposition to the expansion." It made clear the position that facility expansion cannot be performed without persuasion and consent.

Rep. Lee also said, "Daejeon cogeneration was the main agenda when meeting with local council members," and "there was a lot of opposition from the residents. It turned out that there were many concerns about environmental pollution." "It is on the side of Daejeon City and the business operator," he said, saying that it is the duty of Daejeon City.

Regarding the resident briefing sessions held by the business operator, he said, "You should be able to relieve the worries of residents by presenting reliable data rather than holding the briefing session." I think that the efforts of Daejeon City are insufficient," he said, saying that active efforts of Daejeon City are necessary.

Regarding the controversy, Daejeon City said, "I heard that Daejeon City has a different business entity, and is under the control of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, so it is taking a distorted attitude."
It is related to the citizens of Daejeon, and what is happening in the region is the long-awaited project of Daejeon City.”

Regarding that the license is the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, Daejeon City's responsibility to pass over the responsibility to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, "It is not correct to dismiss that it is not the responsibility of Daejeon City just because it is not the subject of the business. I think it is the sole responsibility of Daejeon City."

Rep. Lee said, "However, it is my position that I have refrained from talking about regional issues as a member of the law, as it can be seen as excessive involvement." The residents' emotions are also very sensitive," he said. "It is said that the residents' briefing session was held, but it is quite unfaithful. I think the first thing is to help understanding and reassure through communication with the residents. It is said that it was held several times without such a process." In other words, he pointed out that the residents' information session to fill the number of times was not helpful for communication.

“If there are minimum costs, minimum disadvantages, and many benefits, it is reasonable in the public interest. Even if it is reasonable in the public interest, the logic that a minority should be sacrificed for the whole is wrong,” he said. “If the residents object, you should not promote expansion. "In the event of opposition from residents, it is not allowed to expand facilities," he said.

Meanwhile, the controversial conversion of the Daejeon Combined Cycle Power Plant to the Combined Cycle Power Plant is actually converting the current 112MW power generation capacity to a 495MW Combined Cycle Power Plant, which is causing opposition from local residents. The opposition to the expansion is clear.
