[Attracting the “K-Bio Lab Central” to the war, gathering the will of local politics]

Daejeon region lawmakers hold a discussion meeting to build the success of K-Bio Lab Central

The local politics gathered their will to attract the “K-Bio Lab Central” to the war and started shooting to support the war.

On the 3rd, the local lawmakers and Daejeon City decided to hold a National Assembly debate at the Kensington Hotel in Yeouido on the 3rd for the successful establishment of the “K-Bio Lab Central,” a bio-foundation support organization, and actively promote Daejeon.

The discussion meeting held on the subject of ``How to Build a Successful K-Bio Lab Central'' was co-hosted by National Assembly members Bum-gye Park, Young-soon Park, Sang-min Lee, Chul-min Jang, Seung-rae Cho, and Unha Hwang, and Chairman Lee Kwang-hyung of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) chaired Daejeon. Active discussions were held on the development direction of the national bio-industry, including.

'K-Bio Lab Central' is a business that fosters ventures and start-ups in the bio field by providing experimental facilities, office space, and networking.

Presenter Kim Jong-gap, head of Bon2Global Center, presented a national bioindustry strategy centered on Daejeon under the theme of “a leading country in the second generation biocluster.”
In a presentation on the theme of'Daejeon-Bio Startup Cradle,' Maeng Pil-jae, president of the BioHealth Care Association, said, “Unlike other cities driven by one or two large companies or anchor companies, Daejeon is a unique community where a number of successful venture companies attract junior ventures. He emphasized that "Daejeon is the only region that meets the original purpose of Lab Central to start up and foster venture startups," he said.

Daejeon City Vice Mayor Kim Myung-soo reviewed the current status and achievements of Daejeon Bio Industry under the theme of “Daejeon Bio Industry Innovation Growth Strategy,” and announced the future growth strategy and the direction of Lab Central.

At this meeting, Myeong-soo Kim, Vice Mayor of Science, said, “We will demonstrate the outstanding competitiveness and potential of Daejeon through tangible results through Lab Central.” “Daejeon City organized a promotion council on the 21st of last month and held an inauguration ceremony to bring together regional competencies. And we are striving to engage in full-scale attracting activities,” he said.

Following the presentation of the three subjects, the chairman, Kwang-Hyung Lee of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), conducted a free discussion with Jang-Sung Kim, President of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Hwan-jung Yoon, President of Chungnam National University Hospital, Jun-beom Seo, Professor of Asan Medical Center, Seoul Asan Medical Center, Bioneer Park, and Parliamentarian Hwang Unha.

Kim Jang-sung, director of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, said that due to the nature of the bio industry, active convergence in various fields such as information and communication (IT), nano, and artificial intelligence (AI) is required. This is the best place for Lab Central”.

Yoon Hwan-joong, head of Chungnam National University Hospital, said, “Daejeon was designated as the only biomedical free regulatory zone in the country by the Ministry of Mid-term and International Affairs in 2019, established a joint operation system for human derivatives banks, and a shared research facility for pathogen resources, thus creating synergy with Bio Lab Central in the future. I look forward to the effect.”

Prof. Joon-Bum Seo of Asan Hospital in Seoul suggested that "Lab Central needs to play a role in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, which are leading innovation in the medical field, and start-ups."

Next, Park Han-oh, CEO of Korea's first bio-venture, “Bioneer,” emphasized, “Because the experience and help of senior bio-ventures are so important that they can determine the success or failure of late-stage bio-startups, LabCentral should be built on the basis of the existing bio-venture ecosystem.”

On the other hand, Clinic Unha Hwang said, “The establishment of the lab center in Daejeon is a process that binds Daejeon to Sejong to Osong as a “wide-area biohealth care belt”.” “From a national perspective, we can derive the most effective results by integrating the characteristics of each region. Government funding should be put into place,” he suggested to the government.

Daejeon Mayor Hur Tae-jung said in a video congratulatory remark, “Daejeon City has already prepared a'Basic Plan for Korean Lab Central Construction' last year, and announced the '2030 Vision for Fostering Bio Industry'. We will make it a hub and an outpost targeting the global market.”
