[Daejeon Office of Education conducts free high school education]

The Daejeon City Office of Education announced that it will fully implement free education for all grades in high school this year.

The Daejeon Office of Education provided free education for the first year of high school in the second semester of last year, moving the free education for all grades by six months. This year, about 1.8 million won per person (based on general high school), including tuition fees, school operation support fees, and textbook purchase fees, will be provided to 39,000 students in high school 1-3.

However, students of autonomous private high schools (Daesong High School, Daeshin High School), private special high schools, and various private schools (Saesori Music High School), whose entrance fee and tuition are determined by the principal, are excluded from the free education.

The required budget of 61.6 billion is 33.7 billion (49.4%) of the national government, 32.3 billion (47.5%) of the education office, and 2.1 billion (3.1%) of the local government.

Superintendent Seol Dong-ho said, "We expect to provide free high school education to alleviate the burden of educational expenses for parents suffering from economic difficulties, and we will continue to work to support educational welfare so that even one child will not be marginalized or discriminated against."
