지구온난화로 인한 이른 무더위가 기승을 부리는 가운데, 대전광역시가 폭염의 최전선에 노출된 야외 이동노동자들의 건강권 보호를 위해 팔을 걷어붙였다. 

대전시는 9일 시청 네거리 일원에서 배달종사자와 택배기사 등 이동노동자의 온열질환을 예방하고 안전한 근로환경을 조성하기 위한 ‘생수 나눔 캠페인’을 전개했다고 밝혔다.

대전시 노동권익센터가 주관한 이번 행사는 고용노동부를 비롯해 민주노총 대전지역본부, 한국노총 대전지역본부, 대전시 노사민정협의회 등 지역 내 유관 기관과 노동 단체들이 대거 동참하며 연대의 의미를 더했다. 

캠페인 참여자들은 현장을 지나는 이동노동자들에게 시원한 생수 400여 병과 함께 포도당 캔디, 혹서기 안전용품 등을 직접 전달하며 감사의 뜻을 전했다. 아울러 시민들을 대상으로 이동노동의 사회적 가치를 알리고 이들을 배려하는 문화를 확산하는 거리 홍보도 병행했다.

이동노동자들은 오토바이나 탑차 등을 이용해 야외에서 장시간 근무하는 특성상 폭염과 한파 등 급격한 기후 변화의 위험에 무방비로 노출되기 쉽다. 

박지현 대전시 노동권익센터장은 이번 캠페인이 야외 노동자들의 최소한의 건강권을 보장해야 한다는 사회적 공감대를 넓히고, 체계적인 지원 정책으로 이어지는 계기가 되기를 바란다고 강조했다.

시는 일회성 캠페인에 그치지 않고 제도적 지원망을 지속해서 확충해 나갈 방침이다. 박제화 대전시 경제국장은 폭염 속에서도 시민 편의를 위해 묵묵히 땀 흘리는 이동노동자들의 안전이 최우선이라며, 노동 친화적 대전을 만들기 위해 다각적인 예산과 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다고 말했다.

한편, 대전시는 이동노동자들의 쾌적한 휴식권을 보장하기 위해 유성구 봉명동에 ‘이동노동자 쉼터’를 상시 운영 중이다. 

이곳은 냉난방 시설과 정수기, 안마의자 등 편의시설을 완비해 지난해에만 2만 7000여 명의 노동자가 다녀가는 등 지역 이동노동자들의 든든한 휴식 공간으로 자리 잡았다.
