제9회 전국동시지방선거 세종특별자치시장 선거에서 더불어민주당 조상호 후보가 60%가 넘는 압도적인 지지를 받으며 세종시장 당선을 확정 지었다.

4일 중앙선거관리위원회 최종 개표 결과에 따르면 기호 1번 더불어민주당 조상호 후보는 총 11만 6,846표를 얻어 61.04%의 최종 득표율을 기록했다. 

반면 재선에 도전했던 기호 2번 국민의힘 최민호 후보는 6만 8,944표(36.02%)에 머물며 고배를 마셨다. 두 후보 간의 최종 격차는 4만 7,902표 차이다.

이번 세종시장 선거는 전직 세종시 경제부시장 출신의 조상호 후보와 현직 시장인 최민호 후보 간의 맞대결로 이목을 끌었으나, 개표 초반부터 조 후보가 격차를 크게 벌리며 일찌감치 승기를 굳혔다. 

세종시 유권자들은 현 시정에 대한 평가와 함께 정권 심판론에 무게를 실으며 민주당에 압도적인 표를 몰아준 것으로 분석된다.

뒤를 이어 3위를 기록한 기호 4번 개혁신당 하헌휘 후보는 5,641표를 확보해 최종 득표율 2.95%를 나타냈다.

이로써 세종시정의 새로운 책임자가 된 더불어민주당 조상호 당선인은 함께 치러진 세종시교육감 선거에서 승리한 강미애 당선인 등과 발맞추어 행정수도 세종의 도약과 산적한 지역 경제 현안 해결에 본격적으로 나설 예정이다.

Conversely, Candidate Choi Min-ho (No. 2, People Power Party), who was seeking re-election, suffered a defeat, finishing with 68,944 votes (36.02%). The final margin between the two candidates was 47,902 votes.

The recent Sejong mayoral election drew attention as a head-to-head contest between candidate Cho Sang-ho, a former Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, and incumbent Mayor Choi Min-ho; however, Candidate Cho solidified his victory early on by widening the gap significantly from the beginning of the vote count.

It is analyzed that Sejong voters cast an overwhelming number of votes for the Democratic Party, placing weight on the need to hold the current administration accountable alongside their assessment of the city government.

Following in third place was Candidate Ha Heon-hwi of the Reform New Party (No. 4), who secured 5,641 votes, resulting in a final vote share of 2.95%.

With this victory, Cho Sang-ho of the Democratic Party, now the new head of the Sejong city administration, plans to work in tandem with Candidate Kang Mi-ae, who won the concurrent Sejong City Superintendent of Education election, to spearhead the advancement of the administrative capital and resolve the pressing local economic issues.
