초여름의 길목에서 우리 전통 고유 명절인 단오의 멋과 흥을 한자리에서 만끽할 수 있는 다채로운 문화 축제가 세종시에서 펼쳐진다.

세종특별자치시는 오는 13일 세종시의 대표적 명소인 세종호수공원 푸른들판에서 세종문화원 주관으로 ‘제13회 세종단오제’를 개최한다고 3일 밝혔다.

단오는 창포물에 머리를 감으며 한 해의 액운을 물리치고, 궁중에서는 왕이 신하들에게 무더위를 이겨내라는 의미로 부채를 하사하는 등 풍성한 전통 풍속이 맥을 이어온 대한민국 고유의 명절이다. 

이번 축제는 일상에서 쉽게 접하기 어려운 전통문화를 시민들이 직접 몸으로 체험하며 그 가치를 되새길 수 있도록 기획됐다.

축제가 열리는 세종호수공원 푸른들판은 당일 방문객들의 오감을 만족시킬 '체험마당, 참여마당, 공연마당, 씨름마당' 등 총 4가지 테마 공간으로 변신해 다채로운 프로그램을 쏟아낸다.

가장 눈길을 끄는 ‘체험마당’에서는 떡메치기를 비롯해 창포비누 만들기, 천연염색 손수건 만들기, 수리취떡 및 오미자차 시식 등 총 23개의 풍성한 체험 부스가 관람객을 맞이한다. 

‘참여마당’에서는 딱지치기, 물병 세우기, 공기놀이, 제기차기 등 남녀노소 세대를 불문하고 누구나 동심으로 돌아가 함께 어우러질 수 있는 전통 놀이 한마당이 펼쳐진다.

시각과 청각을 사로잡을 ‘공연마당’도 기대를 모은다. 신비로운 거품공연(버블쇼)을 시작으로 아슬아슬한 줄타기, 신명 나는 사자탈춤, 전통 판굿연희 등이 잇따라 무대에 올라 축제의 흥을 최고조로 끌어올릴 전망이다.

민족 전통 경기인 씨름의 묘미를 즐길 수 있는 ‘씨름마당’도 단오제의 백미다. 세종시 씨름협회장배 유소년 씨름대회와 일반인들이 참여하는 단오맞이 씨름대회가 모래판 위에서 뜨겁게 달아오를 예정이다. 

씨름대회에 참가를 원하는 시민은 세종문화원 공식 누리집을 통해 사전에 신청하거나 행사 당일 현장에서 접수하면 된다. 

아울러 인절미와 수리취떡, 시원한 오미자차 등 전통 먹거리를 무료로 맛볼 수 있는 시식 행사도 함께 마련돼 축제의 풍성함을 더한다.

남궁호 세종시 문화체육관광국장은 본격적인 무더위를 앞두고 우리 고유 명절인 단오의 의미를 되새기면서 가족, 이웃과 함께 전통문화를 즐겁게 체험할 수 있는 소통의 장을 마련했다며, 전통문화가 소중하게 계승·발전될 수 있도록 다양한 문화 행사를 발굴해 나가겠다고 전했다.
