더불어민주당 김기재 당진시장 후보가 공식 선거운동 막바지인 1일 합덕시장 한우거리를 찾아 남부권의 도약과 서민 경제 살리기를 골자로 한 집중 유세를 펼치며 막판 표심 몰이에 나섰다.

장날을 맞아 열린 이번 합동 유세에는 어기구 국회의원을 비롯해 김봉균 충남도의원 후보, 김명진·이화용 당진시의원 후보 등 지역 출마자들과 배우 정흥채 씨가 지원 사격에 나서 더불어민주당의 세 결집과 '원팀 승리'를 다짐했다.

이 자리에서 김 후보는 합덕과 우강 등 당진 남부권의 비전을 제시하는 데 상당한 시간을 할애했다. 

김 후보는 "합덕과 우강을 포함한 남부 지역은 명실상부한 당진의 역사와 문화, 경제의 뿌리"라며 "지역의 핵심 자산인 '버그내순례길'을 스페인의 산티아고에 버금가는 세계적인 순례길로 명소화하겠다"고 공언했다. 

아울러 "해양경찰인재개발원 건립과 연계해 스쳐 가는 관광이 아닌 머무르는 체류형 관광 인프라를 다져 전국의 수많은 관광객을 끌어모으겠다"고 덧붙였다.

특히 이러한 관광 인프라 확충이 일시적인 효과에 그치지 않도록 골목상권과의 상생 체계를 구축하겠다는 구상도 밝혔다. 김 후보는 "순례길과 남부권의 풍부한 관광자원을 합덕전통시장 등 기존 상권과 촘촘하게 연결해 지역 소상공인과 전통시장이 함께 활력을 얻는 선순환 경제 구조를 완성하겠다"고 약속했다.

위축된 민생경제를 정면 돌파하기 위한 핵심 카드로는 '당진경제회복지원금'을 전면에 내세웠다. 

김 후보는 장날임에도 침체된 시장 분위기를 언급하며 "상인과 시민들이 겪고 있는 현장의 경제적 고통을 깊이 체감하고 있다"며 "시장 직무를 시작하는 즉시 당진시민 전원에게 1인당 30만 원씩 지역화폐로 경제회복지원금을 지급해 골목상권과 전통시장에 돈이 도는 마중물로 삼겠다"고 강조했다. 소비 진작을 통해 바닥 경제부터 확실하게 살려내겠다는 의지다.

지원 유세에 나선 인사들의 호소도 이어졌다. 어기구 국회의원은 "이재명 정부가 서민 삶을 돌보고 도탄에 빠진 민생경제를 정상화하기 위해 총력을 기울이고 있다"고 강조하며, 당진과 남부권의 중단 없는 발전을 위해 민주당 후보들을 선택해 달라고 지지를 당부했다. 

배우 정흥채 씨 역시 충남과 당진의 도약을 위해 정부와 지자체, 국회가 한뜻으로 움직여야 지역 발전 속도가 빨라질 수 있다며 힘을 보탰다.

김 후보는 "지방선거는 당진과 남부권의 향후 미래를 좌우할 중차대한 분수령"이라며 "이재명 정부, 박수현 충남도지사 후보, 어기구 국회의원 등 강력한 여당 네트워크 및 시·도의원 후보들과 단단한 원팀을 이뤄 남부권의 확실한 변화와 민생경제 회복을 반드시 책임지겠다"고 강력한 포부를 피력했다.
