국민의힘 박찬우 천안시장 후보는 18일 천안의료원을 방문해 김대식 병원장 등 의료진과 간담회를 갖고 공공보건의료 강화 방안을 논의했다. 

이번 방문은 민간 병원과 차별화된 공공기관의 정체성을 확인하고 현장의 애로사항을 청취하고자 마련됐다.

이날 의료원 측은 감염병 대응과 취약계층 보호 등 공공의료 5대 핵심 역할과 성과를 설명하며 거점 병원의 기능을 고도화하기 위한 과제를 제기했다. 

특히 중증 환자 대응을 위한 지역응급의료센터 승격 시설 예산과 더불어 감염, 류마티스, 중증 외상 등 필수 분야의 전문의 유치 지원 체계 마련을 건의했다. 

아울러 환자들의 교통 편의 및 보행 안전을 개선할 ‘의료원 앞 원형교차로 디자인안’을 제시하며 시 차원의 지원을 요청했다.

박찬우 후보는 현장의 목소리에 깊이 공감하며 과감한 투자가 시정의 최우선 과제임을 천명했다. 

박 후보는 지방의료원 지원은 소모성 비용이 아니라 70만 천안시민을 위한 가장 확실한 건강 안보 투자라고 규정했다. 

이어 시장에 취임하면 천안의료원을 지역거점 공공의료기관의 표준모델로 육성해 누구나 안심하고 찾는 병원으로 재정립하겠다고 확약했다. 

이번 간담회는 교차로 조성이나 전문의 유치 같은 실질적 디테일을 다뤄 향후 천안시 보건 행정의 실용적 방향성을 보여준 것으로 평가된다.
