지방자치단체의 손길이 미처 닿지 않는 복지 사각지대와 재난 현장의 최전선에서 묵묵히 헌신해 온 지역의 숨은 영웅들이 특정 후보에 대한 지지를 선언하며 선거 정국의 새로운 변수로 떠올랐다. 

대전 동구에서 활동해 온 자원봉사 회원 50여 명은 18일 국민의힘 박희조 대전 동구청장 후보를 지지하기로 결의하고 선거사무소에서 공식 선언식을 개최했다.

이날 참석자들은 지역 복지와 환경정화, 취약계층 돌봄, 재난 대응 및 행사 지원 등 동구 공동체의 실핏줄 역할을 담당하며 쌓아온 현장 경험을 공유했다. 

이들은 자원봉사자들의 헌신이 정당한 존중을 받아야 마땅하며, 이를 행정적으로 제도화할 수 있는 적임자가 필요하다는 데 뜻을 모았다.

박희조 후보는 깊은 감사를 표하며 자원봉사자들의 사회적 가치를 한층 격상시켰다. 

박 후보는 행정의 사각지대에서 이웃을 보듬고 공동체를 지탱해 온 위대한 원동력이라며, 자원봉사는 개인의 순수한 선의만으로는 영속될 수 없다고 짚었다. 

나아가 봉사자들의 안전 확보와 안정적인 활동 여건 조성을 필두로 교육, 보험, 휴식, 포상 등 다각적이고 실질적인 처우 개선 방안을 세심하게 수립하겠다고 약속했다.

현장에 참석한 봉사자들은 박 후보의 진정성 있는 약속에 뜨거운 박수로 화답했다. 

한 참석자는 박 후보는 자원봉사의 가치를 단순한 행사 동원 인력으로 보지 않고 지역을 움직이는 소중한 주체로 인정하고 있다라며, 지지 배경을 설명했다. 

또 다른 활동가 역시 도움이 필요한 이웃이 많은 원도심 동구의 특성을 언급하며, 현장의 목소리를 수렴해 정책으로 반영하겠다는 약속에 큰 기대를 표했다.
