15일 팔레드오페라서 ‘다시, 경청’ 출판기념회 및 토크콘서트 개최

지방선거 후보 등록 마감일 겹쳐 지지층 결집 및 정치적 존재감 부각 해석

권선택 전 대전시장이 지난 15일 대전 서구 둔산동 팔레드오페라에서 저서 ‘다시, 경청: 경청 너머, 더 깊은 소통의 길’ 출판기념회와 토크콘서트를 열고 시민 소통의 가치를 역설했다. 

이번 행사는 권 전 시장이 지난 2013년 ‘경청’을 출간한 이후 13년 만에 대중 앞에 서는 자리다.

권 전 시장은 이번 신간에 지난 1년여 동안 매일 아침 시민들과 나눈 대화와 현장 기록을 빼곡히 담아냈다. 

그는 “경청은 단순히 윗사람이 아랫사람 이야기를 듣는 것이 아니라 함께 어우러지고 교감하는 핵심 가치”라며 “무거운 정치나 시국 이야기보다는 삶 속에서 느낀 소박한 행복과 길 위에서 만난 인연들을 중심으로 책을 엮었다”고 소개했다.

또한 책에는 대전·충남 행정통합, 대전교도소 이전, 대전도시철도 2호선 트램 등 지역 주요 현안에 대해 그가 현장에서 수렴한 목소리와 정책적 견해가 실렸다.

권흥주 대전봉사체험교실 회장, 박재홍 시인, 김정주 대표, 송영길 전 더불어민주당 대표 등 지역사회 각 분야 인사들과 나눈 대담도 포함되어 지역이 나아가야 할 미래 전략을 모색했다.

이날 행사에는 더불어민주당 소속 허태정 전 대전시장을 비롯해 박범계(대전 서구을), 장철민(대전 동구), 박정현(대전 대덕구), 황정아(대전 유성구갑) 국회의원과 조국혁신당 황운하 국회의원 등 지역 주요 정치권 인사들이 대거 참석해 눈길을 끌었다. 

권 전 시장은 지난 2024년 광복절 특별사면으로 복권된 후 올해 2월 민주당에 복당했으며, 현재 허태정 대전시장 후보 선대위 공동위원장을 맡아 당내 경선 과정에서 핵심적인 역할을 수행했다.

정치권에서는 대전시청 맞은편 도심 한복판에서 열린 이번 출판기념회의 개최 시기에 주목하고 있다. 공교롭게도 행사가 열린 15일은 6·3 지방선거와 국회의원 재·보궐선거 후보 등록 마감일이기 때문이다.

본 선거를 앞두고 야권 지지층을 결집하고 권 전 시장의 정치적 존재감을 재확인하는 계기가 될 것이라는 분석이 지배적이다. 반면 국민의힘 소속 후보들 사이에서는 견제의 시선도 감지된다.

이에 대해 권 전 시장은 “원래 지난해 말 열었어야 할 행사였으나 여러 정치적 상황과 맞물려 시기를 조정하게 된 것”이라며 “정치 행사처럼 비칠 수 있다는 우려도 알지만, 무엇보다 화려한 정치적 수사 대신 시민들과 안부를 나누고 서로의 이야기를 듣는 따뜻한 소통의 자리가 되길 바랐다”고 선을 그었다.

13년 만에 '경청'이라는 화두를 다시 꺼내든 권선택 전 시장의 행보는 단순한 출판기념회를 넘어 다층적인 정치적 함의를 지닌다고 평가할 수 있을 것이다. 

책을 통해 지역 현안에 대한 정책적 식견을 전파하며 '경청'과 '소통'의 리더십을 부각한 점 역시 향후 당내는 물론 지역 정가에서 자신의 정치적 공간을 넓히기 위한 징검다리 역할을 할 것으로 전망된다.
