6·3 지방선거 논산시장 선거를 앞두고 예비후보 간 공방이 격화되는 가운데, 더불어민주당 오인환 예비후보가 8일 자신의 전과 기록을 둘러싼 공세에 대해 “민주주의를 위한 헌신의 훈장”이라며 강력히 반박하고 나섰다.

오 후보 측 설명에 따르면, 해당 사건은 1990년대 초 군부독재 시절 학원 사찰을 진행하던 정보 형사들과 대치하는 과정에서 발생했다. 당시 학생 대표였던 오 후보는 동료들을 대신해 모든 책임을 졌으며, 이로 인해 징역 1년 6개월에 집행유예 2년을 선고받았다.
