재선에 도전하는 최원철 국민의힘 공주시장 예비후보(이하 후보)가 민선 9기를 관통할 핵심 정책 비전을 공개하며 정책 중심의 선거전 주도권을 잡았다. 

최 후보는 6일 ‘문화·관광’과 ‘교육·복지’를 두 축으로 삼아 시민들의 삶을 실질적으로 개선하고 지역 경제에 활력을 불어넣겠다는 공약을 발표 했다.

최 후보는 관광 정책의 패러다임을 ‘관람형’에서 ‘체류형’으로 완전히 바꾸겠다고 선언했다. 공주 관광의 고질적 문제인 숙박난 해소를 위해 백제문화촌 내 200객실 규모의 ‘웅진 백제호텔’ 건립과 한옥 콘도미니엄 구축을 추진한다.

더불어 ‘대한민국 밤산업 박람회’를 2028년까지 국제 행사로 키우고, 금강 국가정원 조성 및 수륙양용버스 도입 등 차별화된 수변 콘텐츠를 도입해 공주를 52주 내내 축제가 이어지는 관광 명소로 만들겠다는 전략이다. 

원도심은 인문학 투어 코스 개발과 야간 경관 개선을 통해 ‘로컬 브랜딩’ 거점으로 재탄생시킨다.

최 후보는 교육과 복지를 통해 인구 유입과 정주 여건을 동시에 잡겠다는 전략이다. 현재 시범사업 중인 ‘교육발전특구’를 정식 지정으로 이끌어 글로벌 수준의 교육 인프라를 구축하고, ‘365일 24시간 아이맘 돌봄센터’와 ‘공주형 통학버스’ 등을 도입해 공주를 아이 키우기 좋은 도시로 만들겠다고 약속했다.

사회적 약자를 위한 복지망도 더욱 촘촘해진다. 

심야 소아과 운영, 난임 부부 지원, 공공 산후조리원 건립은 물론, 폐교를 활용한 ‘노인유치원’과 장애인 가족을 위한 ‘힐링센터’를 건립하여 전 세대가 행복한 복지 시스템을 구현한다. 아울러 참전유공자 명예수당 전국 최고 수준 인상 등을 통해 보훈 가족에 대한 예우도 잊지 않았다.

최 후보는 이번 공약의 핵심으로 ‘복지와 경제의 선순환’을 꼽았다. 대단위 체육시설 조성을 통한 전국대회 유치, 수촌리 K-한옥 은퇴자 마을 조성 등을 통해 인구 유입을 유도하고, 이 인프라가 곧 지역 경제 활성화로 이어지도록 하겠다는 복안이다.
