맹수석 대전광역시교육감 예비후보가 동구 지역의 오랜 숙원 사업인 천동중학교 신축 현장을 방문해 공사 진행 상황을 점검하고, 지역 간 교육 격차 해소를 위한 정책 구상을 밝혔다. 

맹 예비후보는 5일 대전 동구 천동 92-1 일원의 학교 설립 현장을 찾아 관계자들과 면담을 진행하며 현장 행보를 이어갔다.

이날 현장 방문에는 황인호 동구청장 예비후보, 정근모 동구 시의원 예비후보를 비롯해 이성훈 동구 교육정책위원회 대표와 학부모 대표 등이 동행해 주민들의 높은 관심을 방증했다. 

맹 예비후보는 공사 개요와 진척 현황을 파악한 뒤, 콘크리트 타설이 진행 중인 현장을 직접 살피며 안전 관리 실태를 확인했다.

맹 예비후보는 이 자리에서 향후 인근 지역의 개발 추이를 고려해 고등학교 신설 기준에 대한 적극적이고 면밀한 검토가 이어져야 한다며, 고교 설립에 대해서도 긍정적인 입장을 내비쳤다. 

특히 그는 고교 신설과 더불어 동서 교육 격차 해소를 위한 특성화 교육 프로그램 강화는 대전 교육이 해결해야 할 가장 시급한 과제라고 역설했다.

학교 시설의 안전성에 대해서도 단호한 철학을 밝혔다. 

맹 예비후보는 학교는 우리 아이들에게 세상에서 가장 안전한 공간이 되어야 한다며, 건설 현장 관계자들에게 완공 시까지 안전사고 예방에 만전을 기해달라고 당부했다. 

이어 개교 이후에도 학생들이 시설 이용에 불편함이 없도록 사용자 중심의 의견 수렴 과정을 지속적으로 운영해야 한다고 덧붙였다.

또한 지역 교육 현안은 주민은 물론 각 기초자치단체장과 상호 협력해 합리적인 해결 방안을 모색해야 한다며, 교육 자치와 지방 자치의 유기적인 결합을 제안했다.

한편, 천동3구역 주거환경개선사업의 일환으로 설립되는 천동중학교는 오는 2027년 1월까지 공사를 마무리하고 같은 해 3월 개교를 목표로 순항 중이다.
