보령시가 오는 5월 6일부터 사람유두종바이러스(HPV) 국가예방접종 지원 대상을 '2014년생 남성 청소년'까지 넓힌다. 

그동안 여성 청소년에게만 집중됐던 무료 접종 혜택을 남성에게까지 확대함으로써, 성별에 관계없이 관련 질환을 예방하고 감염 고리를 원천 차단하겠다는 취지다.

2014년 1월 1일부터 12월 31일 사이 출생한 남성 청소년 대상자는 국가예방접종 사업을 통해 HPV 4가 백신을 무료 지원받을 수 있다. 단, HPV 9가 백신은 제외된다.

보령 관내 지정 위탁의료기관 10개소에서 접종 가능하며, 주소지와 상관없이 가까운 지정 의료기관을 찾으면 된다.

대상자는 1차 접종 후, 6개월 간격으로 2차 접종을 완료해야 한다.

HPV 백신은 암을 예방할 수 있는 현존하는 가장 효과적인 수단으로 꼽힌다. 특히 남성이 백신을 접종할 경우 항문암, 구인두암 등 남성 관련 질환 예방에 도움을 받을 수 있다. 

아울러 집단 면역 형성을 통해 여성 자궁경부암 발생률을 현저히 낮출 수 있다는 연구 결과 또한 주목할만 하다.  

시는 이번 HPV 백신 예방접종 사업이 현장 혼선 없이 진행될 수 있도록 철저히 관리할 방침이다.
