공주참여자치시민연대(이하 공주참여연대)가 최근 정치권에서 거론되는 정진석 전 대통령 비서실장의 국회의원 보궐선거 출마 가능성에 대해 강한 비판의 목소리를 냈다.

공주참여연대는 28일 성명서를 발표하고, 지난 27일 청양군에서 열린 예비후보 선거사무소 개소식에 참석한 정 전 비서실장의 행보를 지적했다. 당시 정 전 비서실장은 보궐선거 출마 여부를 묻는 취재진의 질문에 “당의 뜻에 따르겠다”고 답변한 것으로 알려졌다.

공주참여연대는 성명을 통해 정 전 비서실장이 직전 정부의 마지막 비서실장으로서 당시 발생한 내란 사태와 국정 혼란에 대해 막중한 책임이 있는 인물이라고 규정했다.

공주참여연대는 "자숙과 반성이 필요한 시점에 공개 행보를 재개하며 현 정부를 비난하고 보궐선거 출마 가능성을 내비치는 것은 민주주의 회복을 바라는 시민의 뜻에 반하는 행동"이라고 비판했다. 

이어 "국정 파탄의 책임에서 자유롭지 못한 인물이 다시 지역 정치 전면에 나서는 것은 지역민을 우롱하고 충남의 명예를 훼손하는 일"이라고 덧붙였다.

공주참여연대는 보궐선거가 과거 권력의 복귀 통로로 이용되어서는 안 된다는 점을 명확히 했다.

공주참여연대는 "국회의원직이 책임 회피를 위한 피난처가 될 수 없다"며, 만약 정 전 비서실장이 출마를 강행할 경우 지역 시민들과 연대해 강력한 출마 반대 및 저항 운동을 전개할 것이라고 예고했다.

한편, 이번 보궐선거는 박수현 전 의원의 충남도지사 출마로 인해 공석이 된 공주·부여·청양 지역구에서 치러질 예정으로, 정 전 비서실장의 향후 거취에 지역 정가의 이목이 쏠리고 있다.

The Gongju Citizens' Coalition for Participatory Self-Government (hereinafter Gongju Coalition) has voiced strong criticism regarding the possibility, recently discussed in political circles, that former Presidential Chief of Staff Jeong Jin-seok might run in a National Assembly by-election.

In a statement released on the 28th, the Gongju Coalition pointed out the actions of former Chief of Staff Jeong, who attended the opening ceremony of a preliminary candidate election office held in Cheongyang-gun on the 27th. Meanwhile, as this by-election is scheduled to be held in the Gongju, Buyeo, and Cheongyang constituency, which became vacant due to former lawmaker Park Soo-hyun's candidacy for South Chungcheong Province Governor, the local political scene is focusing its attention on the future whereabouts of former Chief of Staff Jeong.
