오월드 인근 활보하는 가짜 사진 유포로 경찰 기동대 등 71명 엉뚱한 곳 배치

지난 8일 오전 대전 오월드에서 탈출한 늑대 ‘늑구’의 수색 과정에서 인공지능(AI)으로 조작된 가짜 목격 사진을 유포해 국가 행정력을 낭비하게 만든 40대 남성이 경찰에 덜미를 잡혔다.

대전경찰청은 생성형 AI를 이용해 늑대 목격 사진을 조작·유포함으로써 경찰과 소방 등 수색 당국의 공무집행을 방해한 혐의로 A씨(40세, 남)를 검거했다고 24일 밝혔다.

사건의 발단은 지난 4월 8일, 오월드 동물원에서 수컷 회색늑대 ‘늑구’가 우리를 탈출하면서 시작됐다. 당시 경찰과 소방, 군 등 250여 명의 대규모 수색팀이 보문산 일대를 샅샅이 뒤지던 중, 온라인상에 오월드네거리를 활보하는 늑대 사진이 급격히 확산됐다.

이로 인해 포획의 결정적 순간인 초기 24~48시간을 허비하게 됐으며, 결과적으로 늑구 포획 성공까지의 골든타임이 무려 9일이나 지연되는 결과를 초래했다.

대전경찰청 사이버수사대는 유포된 사진과 주변 CCTV를 정밀 분석해 A씨를 특정했으며, AI 프로그램 사용 기록과 업로드 이력 등 물증을 확보해 범행 일체를 자백받았다.

경찰 관계자는 “누구나 정교한 조작 영상을 만들 수 있는 시대지만, 이를 악용해 허위 정보를 퍼뜨리는 행위는 시민의 안전을 담보로 한 중대 범죄”라며 “단순한 장난으로 치부하기에는 행정력 낭비와 시민 보호 차질이 너무 크다”고 지적했다.
