“유묵은 콘텐츠가 아닌 정신”… 독립기념관 인근 상업 개발에 경종

천안을 ‘독립정신의 세계적 허브’로… 국제적 담론의 장 제안

안중근의사기념사업회 충남천안지부의 김영만 지부장이 안중근 의사 유묵의 국내 귀환과 관련해 환영의 뜻을 밝히며, 독립운동의 성지인 천안이 나아가야 할 역사적 방향성을 제시했다. 

김 지부장은 이번 유묵 귀환을 단순한 문화재 환수를 넘어 대한민국 독립정신을 바로 세우는 ‘역사적 전환점’으로 정의했다.

김 지부장은 최근 천안시가 발표한 독립기념관 서곡지구 내 시대극 촬영 인프라 및 K-콘텐츠 테마파크 조성 계획에 대해 깊은 우려와 조언을 동시에 건넸다. 

그는 “관광 활성화의 필요성에는 공감하지만, 안중근 의사와 독립운동의 상징적 장소를 단순한 콘텐츠 소비 공간으로 접근하는 것은 위험하다”고 지적했다.

특히 독립기념관 인근 공간은 대한민국 정체성의 핵심인 만큼, 성역성과 상업적 활용 사이에서 엄격한 균형이 선행되어야 한다고 강조했다. 개발의 철학이 부재한 상태에서의 상업적 접근은 자칫 도시의 정체성에 혼란을 줄 수 있다는 비판이다. 

김 지부장은 “서곡지구는 먼저 추모와 교육의 중심 공간으로 성역화되어야 하며, 문화·콘텐츠 산업은 이를 보완하는 위계적 구조로 배치되어야 한다”고 덧붙였다.

김 지부장은 천안이 과거를 기념하는 데 그치지 않고, 미래 가치를 창출하는 ‘역사수도’로 거듭나야 한다고 역설했다. 이를 위해 안중근 의사의 ‘동양평화론’을 현대적으로 재해석하는 국제포럼을 정례화할 것을 제안했다. 

독립기념관을 중심으로 평화와 인권, 역사 정의를 논하는 장을 마련함으로써 천안을 세계적인 역사 허브로 발전시켜야 한다는 구상이다.

또한 용연저수지와 흑성산, 독립기념관을 잇는 역사·생태 복합관광축을 국가 사업으로 승격시켜 대한민국의 정체성을 국가 차원에서 재조명할 필요가 있다고 밝혔다. 아울러 향후 안중근 의사의 유해 송환에 대비한 시민 참여형 특별기금 조성 등 실질적인 행동 준비도 촉구했다.

천안중, 대전고 60회, 양 승조 전 충남도 특보단장 ,천안시장 출마 예정자인 김영만 지부장은 “안중근 의사는 소비되는 콘텐츠가 아니라 우리가 계승해야 할 정신 그 자체”라고 거듭 강조했다. 관광은 목적이 아닌 수단이 되어야 하며, 천안은 독립정신 상징도시로서 품격 있는 모델을 제시해야 한다는 것이 그의 지론이다.
