조상호 전 국정기획위원이 펴낸 단행본 '조상호의 새로운 생각' 출판기념회가 10일 정부세종청사 체육관 1층 다목적홀에서 열려 약 2000여 명의 시민과 지지자들이 몰리며 성황을 이뤘다. 

이해찬 전 국무총리를 비롯해 여권 핵심 인사와 세종시의원, 각계 주요 인사들이 대거 참석해 조 전 위원의 세종 구상에 힘을 보탰다.​

행사장에는 이해찬 전 국무총리(현 민주평통 수석부의장), 김종민·최혁진·황운하 의원, 이강진 더불어민주당 세종갑지역위원장, 이춘희 전 세종시장 등이 직접 자리했다. 

정청래 더불어민주당 대표와 이한주 대통령 정책특보, 박수현 민주당 수석대변인, 박정현 대전시당위원장 등 당 지도부와 중진 의원들은 영상으로 축하 메시지를 보내며 조 전 위원의 행보를 격려했다.​

축사에서 이해찬 전 총리는 “조상호 동지는 20년 가까이 함께 일하며 한눈팔지 않는 모습을 보여준 사람”이라며 “좋은 공직자에게 필요한 올바른 자세와 판단력, 완급조절 능력을 고루 갖춘 인물”이라고 평가했다. 

최혁진 의원 역시 “착하고 유능할 뿐 아니라 일을 밀어붙일 힘과 뚝심, 결단력을 동시에 지닌 사람”이라며 “여러 사람의 새로운 생각이 모이면 결국 대한민국이 바뀔 것”이라고 말했다.​

정청래 대표는 영상 축사에서 “조 전 부시장은 세종시 출범 초기부터 행정 일선에서 미래 비전을 함께 설계해 온 ‘세종의 참 일꾼’”이라며 “현장에서 다져온 정책 경험을 이번 책에 일목요연하게 담아냈다”고 소개했다. 구현모 전 KT 대표, 최교진 교육부 장관도 별도의 영상으로 축하 인사를 전했다.​

조상호 전 위원은 세종시 출범 원년인 2012년부터 행정·정책 부문에서 도시 성장 과정에 직접 참여해 왔다. 이번 책에는 그동안 축적한 정책 경험과 함께 세종을 행정수도를 넘어 자족형 도시로 발전시키기 위한 구상을 정리해 담았다.​

저서는 1부 ‘세종의 미래’와 2부 ‘새로운 생각’으로 나뉜다. 1부에서는 ‘도시란 무엇인가?’라는 질문에서 출발해 이재명 대통령이 추진하는 행정수도 전략과 연계된 ‘신수도권 메가리전 프로젝트’를 소개하며, 세종이 중심이 되는 새로운 수도권 구상과 도시 모델을 제시한다. 2부에는 지난 4년간 사회관계망서비스(SNS)에 남긴 글 가운데 교육·혁신·청년 정책 등 책의 주제와 맞닿은 글을 선별해 실었다.​

조 전 위원은 “세종을 중심으로 한 충청권이 ‘브레인 홈’, 금융시장, 우주 산업, 바이오·반도체·모빌리티, 농업 등 7개 혁신 산업을 육성해 서울 수도권에 버금가는 경쟁력을 갖추게 된다면 대한민국 전체가 살아날 것”이라며 “책에 담은 7개 프로젝트를 더 발전시켜 실현하고 싶다”고 설명했다. 

이어 “서울 중심의 발전이 계속되면 지역은 사막화되고 국가 존립마저 위태로워질 수 있다”며 “위대한 도시는 시민의 삶을 위해 존재하는 만큼 이제는 서울이 아닌 세종의 시각으로 세상을 바라봐야 한다”고 국토 균형발전의 필요성을 강조했다.​

그는 또 ‘제민지산’과 ‘시민여상’이라는 고사를 인용하며 “국민의 생업 기반을 튼튼히 하고, 백성을 다친 사람을 대하듯 살피는 마음으로 임하겠다”고 다짐했다. 조 전 위원은 “세종시가 대한민국을 새롭게 바라보게 만드는 멋진 공간이 되기를 바란다”며 시민 중심 도시 운영 철학을 거듭 밝혔다.​

이날 현장에는 더불어민주당 소속 세종시의회 전·현직 시의원을 비롯해 지역 문화예술·체육·복지·아동청소년·종교계 인사와 시민단체 관계자들이 대거 참석했다. 

지역 청년과 시민 대표가 무대에 올라 축사를 낭독하면서, 세종의 미래를 함께 설계하자는 메시지를 공유해 눈길을 끌었다.​

Cho Sang-ho's "New Ideas" Book Launch Event... Over 2,000 People Respond to Sejong's Future Vision

The book launch event for Cho Sang-ho's "New Ideas," a book published by former National Assembly Member for Policy Planning Cho Sang-ho, was held on the 10th in the multipurpose hall on the first floor of the gymnasium at the Sejong Government Complex. Approximately 2,000 citizens and supporters gathered for the event.

Former Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan, along with key figures from the ruling party, Sejong City Council members, and prominent figures from various sectors, attended the event to support Cho's vision for Sejong.

Attendees included former Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan (currently Senior Vice Chairman of the National Unification Advisory Council), lawmakers Kim Jong-min, Choi Hyuk-jin, and Hwang Un-ha, Sejong District A Chairman Lee Kang-jin of the Democratic Party of Korea, and former Sejong City Mayor Lee Chun-hee.

Democratic Party of Korea leader Chung Cheong-rae, special advisor to the president for policy Lee Han-joo, senior spokesperson Park Soo-hyun, and Daejeon City Party chairman Park Jeong-hyun, along with other party leaders and senior lawmakers, sent congratulatory video messages and encouraged Cho's progress.

In his congratulatory address, former Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan praised Cho Sang-ho, saying, "Comrade Cho Sang-ho has demonstrated a unwavering commitment to the task over nearly 20 years of working together. He possesses the right attitude, judgment, and ability to manage urgency, all essential qualities of a good public servant."

In his congratulatory video address, Representative Chung Cheong-rae described Cho as "a true worker for Sejong City," having worked on the front lines of administrative work since the city's inception, designing its future vision. Former KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo and Minister of Education Choi Kyo-jin also sent congratulatory messages via separate video.

Former Commissioner Cho Sang-ho has been directly involved in the city's growth process in the administrative and policy sectors since 2012, the year of Sejong City's launch. This book shares his accumulated policy experience and outlines his vision for developing Sejong beyond an administrative capital into a self-sufficient city.

The book is divided into Part 1, "The Future of Sejong," and Part 2, "New Ideas." Part 1 begins with the question, "What is a city?" and introduces the "New Capital Region Mega-Region Project," which is aligned with President Lee Jae-myung's administrative capital strategy. It then presents a new vision and urban model for the capital region, centered around Sejong. Part 2 features a selection of social media posts from the past four years that resonate with the book's themes, including education, innovation, and youth policy.

Former Rep. Cho stated, "If the Chungcheong region, centered around Sejong, fosters seven innovative industries—Brain Home, financial markets, space industry, biotechnology, semiconductors, mobility, and agriculture—and achieves competitiveness comparable to that of the Seoul metropolitan area, the entire Republic of Korea will be revitalized." He added, "I hope to further develop and realize the seven projects outlined in the book."

He continued, "If Seoul-centered development continues, the region could become a desert, and even the very existence of the nation could be threatened." He added, "A great city exists for the lives of its citizens, so we must now view the world through the lens of Sejong, not Seoul." He emphasized the need for balanced national development.

He also cited the proverbs "Jeminjisan" (a mountain that protects the people) and "Simminyeosang" (a woman's illness) and pledged, "I will strengthen the livelihoods of the people and treat them with the same care as if they were injured." Former Chairman Cho reiterated his philosophy of citizen-centered city management, saying, "I hope Sejong City will become a wonderful space that allows people to see the Republic of Korea in a new light."

The event was attended by a large number of current and former Sejong City Council members from the Democratic Party of Korea, as well as figures from the local arts, culture, sports, welfare, children and youth, and religious communities, as well as representatives from civic groups.

Representatives of local youth and citizens took the stage to deliver congratulatory remarks, drawing attention by sharing a message of collaboration to design Sejong's future.
