이은권 국민의힘 대전시당 위원장이 최근 급물살을 타고 있는 대전·충남 행정통합에 대해 원칙적인 찬성 입장을 밝히면서도, 정치적 이해관계에 따른 ‘졸속 추진’에 대해 강력한 경고 메시지를 던졌다.

이 위원장은 7일 오전 대전시의회 기자실에서 열린 간담회를 통해 “대전·충남 행정통합은 지역의 미래를 좌우할 구조적 선택이지, 결코 선거용 구호나 정치 이벤트가 되어서는 안 된다”고 강조했다.

특히 그는 현재 진행 중인 통합 논의가 시·도민의 의사보다 정치권의 일정에 맞춰져 있다는 점을 우려했다. 

“지방선거 일정에 맞춘 졸속 통합 추진을 반드시 경계해야 한다”고 운을 뗀 이 위원장은 정부와 지자체가 주민투표 없이 통합을 추진하려는 움직임에 대해 “주민은 동원의 대상이 아니라 결정의 주체”라며, 필요하다면 주민투표를 통해 정당성을 확보해야 한다고 강조했다.

다가오는 6월 지방선거와 관련해 공천 원칙에 대해서도 입장을 밝혔다. 

이 위원장은 “선거 승리를 위해서는 시민들이 공감할 수 있는 투명한 공천이 필수적”이라며, 중앙당의 공천 기준이 하달되는 대로 즉시 적용할 수 있도록 후보자들에 대한 사전 검증 작업을 이미 진행 중이라고 설명했다. 

공천 지연 우려에 대해서는 신속하고 정확한 시스템 공천으로 대응하겠다는 의지를 보였다.
