20여 년간 표류했던 유성복합터미널 사업이 가시적 성과를 내며 준공 목표에 속도를 내고 있다.

대전시는 16일 이장우 시장이 유성복합터미널 신축 공사 현장을 찾아 진행 상황을 확인하고, 연말 준공 차질이 없도록 공정·품질 관리에 만전을 기해 달라고 당부했다고 밝혔다. 현재 공정률은 61%로 주요 골조 공사가 이미 완료된 상태다.

지난 2010년부터 추진된 유성복합터미널 건립사업은 그동안 4차례 민간사업자 공모가 무산됐었고, 이후 2020년 상업시설이 포함된 공동주택 건립을 통한 재정 조달 방식의 사업을 추진했었지만 이 역시 무산되면서 사업이 장기 표류가 예상됐었다.

하지만 이장우 대전시장이 취임 이후 재정사업으로 추진하는 것으로 사업 추진 방식이 변경되면서 사업 추진에 급물살을 타기 시작했고, 지난해 2월 이장우 대전시장의 결단으로 과감하게 재정 투입 결정을 내리며 사업을 다시 궤도에 올려 본격화를 이끌었다.

그 결과 현재 총 사업비 449억 원을 들여 부지 15000㎡, 연면적 3713㎡ 규모로 터미널이 들어서고 있으며, 준공 후 하루 평균 5200명의 이용이 예상된다. 

대전시는 공사를 2025년 12월까지 마무리하고, 내년 1월부터 운영 개시에 나선다는 계획이다.

이날 건설 현장을 방문한 이장우 시장은 “유성복합터미널은 단순한 교통시설이 아니라 원도심과 신도심을 잇고, 시민 편의를 높이며, 교통·상업·문화 기능을 아우르는 대전의 새로운 성장 거점”이라고 강조했다. 이어 “오랜 기다림 끝에 시민들에게 돌려드리는 만큼 철저한 공정관리와 안전 시공을 통해 반드시 완공하겠다”고 밝혔다.
