정청래 더불어민주당 당대표 후보가 후보 등록일인 10일 이른 아침 자신이 고등학교를 졸업한 대전을 찾아 당원들과 조찬을 함께하며 본격적인 당대표 선거 행보를 시작했다. 

이날 조찬 모임에는 정 의원을 적극 지지하는 당원 10여 명이 참석해 뜻을 함께하고, 정 의원에 힘을 더했다.

정 의원는 이 자리에서 "국민주권시대, 당원이 주인인 진짜 당원주권정당을 만들겠다"고 강조했다. 그는 "그에 대한 실천 방안으로 전당원투표제 상설화, 당원 주권위원회 신설 등을 통해 당의 주요 정책을 전당원투표로 결정하겠다"는 구체적인 구상을 밝혔다고 참석자는 전했다.

정청래 의원은 또 "당원이 실질적으로 당의 주인이 되는 구조를 만들어야 한다"며, "당원 한 사람 한 사람의 목소리가 당의 정책과 방향에 직접적으로 반영될 수 있도록 하겠다"고 말했다.

정 의원의 발언은 앞으로도 당원과의 소통을 최우선으로 삼아 당의 혁신과 변화에 앞장서겠다는 의지로 해석된다.

이날 조찬을 마친 뒤 참석자들과 함께 기념촬영을 하며 결의를 다진 정청래 의원은 이날 후보등록과 함께 본격적인 당대표 선거에 나선다.

한편 1965년 충남 금산에서 태어난 정청래 의원은 제17·19·21·22대 국회의원에 당선된 4선 의원으로 대전보문고등학교를 졸업하면서 대전과의 깊은 인연을 이어가고 있다.
