시인에서 도시공동체 이사장까지...

ESG·IP·AI 융합 시대를 이끄는 이야기 개척자

 

“사람의 마음을 움직이는 것은 결국, 진심이 담긴 이야기입니다.”

 

6월 20일, 대전 유성구 도룡동의 대전콘텐츠코리아랩 사무실. ‘융합의 시대’를 말로만 외치지 않고 실제로 구현하고 있는 한 사람, 이가희 교수를 만났다. 

 

그는 시인이자 교육자이며, 지식재산(IP) 스토리텔링 창시자이자 도시공동체운동가다. 최근에는 사단법인 ‘도시공동체본부’ 이사장으로 새 출발을 알리며 또 하나의 스토리를 시작했다.

 

충북 보은 출신으로 2001년 대전일보 신춘문예를 통해 등단한 이 교수는 섬세한 문학적 감성과 학문적 통찰을 바탕으로 끊임없이 영역을 확장해왔다. 

 

현재 한남대학교 AI기반 디지털혁신전략최고위과정(DIP)을 이끌며 ESG, IP, AI를 아우르는 혁신 교육을 설계하고 있다.

 

최근 ESG(환경·사회·지배구조)가 기업 경영의 핵심 키워드로 떠오르면서, 이 교수는 이에 대한 진정성 있는 접근을 강조한다.

 

이 교수는 “ESG는 단순한 이미지 포장이 아니라, 기업이 어떻게 지속가능한 가치를 실현하고 있는지를 스토리로 드러내는 것이 중요합니다. 사람을 감동시키는 건 수치가 아니라, 진심이 담긴 이야기죠.” 라면서 중요성을 강조했다.

 

그는 ESG 교육과정 운영뿐 아니라, 실제 환경기술 사례들을 이야기 형식으로 풀어내 기업들이 스스로의 가치를 재발견하도록 돕는다. 스토리텔링이란 단순히 콘텐츠를 만드는 기술이 아니라, 사회적 신뢰를 얻는 방법론이라는 것이 그의 철학이다.

이가희 교수는 국내 최초로 ‘IP 스토리텔링’ 개념을 정립하고 이를 대중화한 인물로 평가받는다. KAIST 지식재산대학원 등에서 강의하며, 복잡한 법률과 기술 개념을 감성적인 이야기로 풀어내는 방식으로 큰 호응을 얻었다. 

 

그는 지식재산권을 ‘창의력의 사회적 번역 장치’라고 정의하며, “이야기를 통해 IP의 가치를 널리 공유할 수 있다”고 말한다.

 

최근 이 교수는 도시공동체본부 이사장으로서 또 다른 전환점을 맞았다. 개발과 속도의 시대 속에서 도시들이 고유의 이야기를 잃고 있다는 현실을 지적하며, 지역 주민과 함께 ‘이야기를 발굴하고 재생산하는 공동체 프로젝트’를 시작했다.

 

“지역마다 고유한 이야기가 있습니다. 그 이야기를 함께 찾아내고 나누는 과정이 도시의 소속감과 정체성을 회복하는 첫걸음입니다.”

그는 지역주민이 주도적으로 참여하는 프로그램들을 기획하고 있으며, 이는 단절된 이웃관계를 회복하고, 따뜻한 공동체를 회복하기 위한 문화적 시도이기도 하다.

 

디지털 시대의 화두 중 하나인 AI. 하지만 이 교수는 기술의 발전보다 ‘사람에 대한 이해’가 선행돼야 한다고 강조한다.

 

“AI는 수단일 뿐입니다. 그것이 인간의 문제를 해결하려면, 기술과 인문학이 만나야 합니다.”

 

그가 이끄는 한남대 DIP 과정에서는 AI 기술과 인문적 성찰을 융합한 교육을 통해 ‘윤리적이고 창의적인 AI 활용’에 초점을 맞춘다. 이는 결국 기술을 통해 인간의 삶을 더 깊이 이해하고, 더 나은 방향으로 나아가기 위한 시도다.

 

스토리텔링, 그 자체가 혁신이다

인터뷰 말미, 이 교수는 다시 한번 ‘이야기’의 힘을 강조했다.

 

그는 “변화와 혁신의 중심에는 항상 사람이 있고, 사람을 움직이는 건 이야기입니다. 저는 앞으로도 다양한 분야의 이야기를 발굴하고, 그것을 통해 세상과 소통하는 역할을 하고 싶습니다.”라는 메시지를 남겼다.

 

그의 여정은 교육에서 시작해 문학, 도시, 기술, 그리고 공동체로 이어졌다. 

 

그리고 그 중심에는 늘 ‘이야기’가 있었다. 이가희 교수는 단순히 말 잘하는 사람이 아니라, 이야기를 통해 세상을 바꾸려는 실천가이자 설계자다.

 

이날 이 교수는 “누구나 자신만의 이야기를 가지고 있고, 그 이야기는 세상을 바꿀 수 있는 힘을 가지고 있어요. 작은 실천에서 변화를 시작하세요. 그게 바로 우리가 더 나은 내일로 나아가는 출발점입니다.”라는 울림을 남기는 것으로 인터뷰를 마무리 했다.

 

도룡동 대전콘텐츠코리아랩을 나서는 길, 기자는 이가희 교수의 말처럼 진정성 있는 이야기가 가진 힘을 다시 떠올렸다. 시대와 분야를 넘나들며 혁신의 메시지를 전하는 ‘이야기 개척자’ 이가희 교수. 그의 다음 이야기가 기대되는 이유다.

June 20, at the Daejeon Content Korea Lab office in Doryong-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. We met Professor Lee Ga-hee, a person who is not just talking about the ‘era of convergence’ but actually implementing it.

 

He is a poet, educator, founder of intellectual property (IP) storytelling, and urban community activist. Recently, he announced a new beginning as the director of the ‘Urban Community Headquarters’, a non-profit organization, and began another story.

 

Professor Lee, who is from Boeun, Chungcheongbuk-do, debuted in 2001 through the Daejeon Ilbo New Year’s Literary Contest and has continuously expanded his field based on his delicate literary sensibility and academic insight.

 

Currently, he is leading the AI-based Digital Innovation Strategy (DIP) at Hannam University and is designing innovative education encompassing ESG, IP, and AI.

 

Recently, as ESG (Environment, Society, and Governance) has emerged as a key keyword in corporate management, Professor Lee emphasizes a genuine approach to it.

 

Professor Lee emphasized its importance by saying, “ESG is not simply packaging an image, but it is important to reveal how a company is realizing sustainable value through a story. What moves people is not numbers, but a sincere story.”

 

In addition to operating an ESG education course, he helps companies rediscover their own value by telling real environmental technology cases in the form of stories. His philosophy is that storytelling is not simply a technology to create content, but a methodology to gain social trust.

 

“Intellectual property is invisible, but it is the most powerful asset that moves the world.”

 

Professor Lee Ga-hee is evaluated as the first person in Korea to establish the concept of ‘IP storytelling’ and popularize it. He lectures at KAIST’s Graduate School of Intellectual Property, and has received great responses for his way of explaining complex legal and technical concepts through emotional stories.

 

He defines intellectual property rights as a “social translation device for creativity,” and says, “We can widely share the value of IP through stories.”

 

Recently, Professor Lee has reached another turning point as the chairman of the Urban Community Headquarters. He pointed out the reality that cities are losing their unique stories in the era of development and speed, and started the “Community Project to Discover and Reproduce Stories” with local residents.

 

“Each region has its own unique story. The process of discovering and sharing those stories together is the first step toward restoring a sense of belonging and identity in a city.”

 

He is planning programs in which local residents actively participate, and this is also a cultural attempt to restore disconnected neighborly relationships and a warm community.

 

AI, one of the hot topics of the digital age. However, Professor Lee emphasizes that “understanding people” should come before technological advancement.

 

“AI is just a means. For it to solve human problems, technology and humanities must meet.”

 

The DIP course he leads at Hannam University focuses on ‘ethical and creative AI utilization’ through education that combines AI technology and humanistic reflection. This is ultimately an attempt to understand human life more deeply through technology and move in a better direction.

 

Storytelling itself is innovation

At the end of the interview, Professor Lee once again emphasized the power of ‘story.’

 

He left a message saying, “People are always at the center of change and innovation, and stories are what move people. I want to continue to discover stories from various fields and play a role in communicating with the world through them.”

 

His journey began in education and continued on to literature, cities, technology, and communities.

 

And at the center of it all was ‘story.’ Professor Lee Ga-hee is not just a person who is good at talking, but a practitioner and designer who tries to change the world through stories.

 

On this day, Professor Lee concluded the interview by saying, “Everyone has their own story, and that story has the power to change the world. Start with small actions to change. That is the starting point for us to move toward a better tomorrow.”
