장종태 국회의원(더불어민주당, 대전 서구)이 6월 20일 대전 가원학교를 방문해 교내 구조 안전 문제를 점검하고, 현장에서 긴급 기자간담회를 열었다. 장 의원은 “아이들의 생명과 직결된 사안에 타협은 있을 수 없다”며, 즉각적인 행정 조치를 강력히 요구했다.

장 의원은 구체적인 대응책으로 정밀안전진단의 신속한 착수 ,진단 기간 동안 학생 분산 수업 및 대체 교실 확보 ,진단 결과에 따른 전면 보강 검토 ,비상 상황에 대비한 매뉴얼 재정비 등을 제시하며, 대전시와 교육청의 책임 있는 대응을 촉구했다.

이어 그는 “이번 사례를 계기로 가원학교뿐만 아니라 대전 관내 모든 학교의 안전 사각지대를 전수 점검해야 한다”며 “특히 특수학교의 특성을 반영한 별도 안전 설계 기준 마련과 관련 법‧제도 개선, 예산 반영에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
