대전지역 대학들이 교육부의 ‘글로컬대학 30’ 사업에서 예비지정에 잇따라 이름을 올리며, 지역 주도형 고등교육 혁신의 신호탄을 쏘아 올렸다.

27일 교육부 발표에 따르면 충남대학교-공주대학교(통합형), 한남대학교, 한밭대학교 등 대전 소재 3개 대학이 ‘2025 글로컬대학 30’ 사업의 예비지정 대상으로 선정됐다. 

전국에서 접수된 총 6건(8개 대학) 중 대전이 3건(3개 대학)을 포함시키는 성과를 거두며, 지방대학 경쟁력 강화에 대한 대전시의 전략이 실효를 거두고 있다는 평가다.

이번 선정은 단순한 대학 유치 이상의 의미를 지닌다. 대전시가 주도적으로 대학별 맞춤형 전략을 지원해온 결과로, 대전 고등교육 생태계의 구조적 전환 가능성을 보여줬다는 점에서 주목된다.

충남대와 공주대는 ‘충청 지산학연 협력 플랫폼’ 구축을 통해 초광역 통합 국립대학이라는 새로운 모델을 제시했다. 양 대학은 지역 내 대학 간 벽을 허물고, 교육과 연구, 산업 간 경계를 넘나드는 혁신적 구조 개편에 착수할 예정이다.

한남대학교는 창업 중심의 대학으로서 차별화를 꾀했다. ‘K-스타트업 밸리 대학’을 비전으로 내세운 한남대는 대전 창업타운을 ‘한남스타트업밸리’로 발전시키고, 청년 창업을 지역경제 성장의 중심축으로 삼겠다는 전략이다.

한밭대학교는 인공지능 기술을 기반으로 유지보수 정비(AX-MRO)와 국방 반도체 등 지역 주력 산업에 특화된 인재 양성 모델을 통해 산업 대전환의 거점 대학으로 도약하겠다는 계획을 세웠다.

이번 성과는 대전시의 체계적인 지원이 뒷받침됐기에 가능했다. 시는 지난 2월부터 대학별 전담 TF를 구성해 전폭적인 행정 지원을 해왔고, 전략회의 및 전문가 컨설팅도 상시 운영하며 대학별 준비 과정을 밀착 관리했다. 

예비지정 심사의 대면 평가에도 대전시 부시장과 국장이 직접 참석해 대학별 사업의 당위성과 지역 지원 의지를 강조하며 정부에 강력한 메시지를 전달했다.

앞으로 예비지정 대학들은 8월까지 지자체, 산업체 등과 협업해 세부 실행계획서를 제출해야 하며, 이를 기반으로 본지정 여부가 결정된다. 본지정에 성공할 경우, 교육부의 중장기 재정 지원과 함께 대학 혁신의 기틀을 더욱 공고히 다질 수 있게 된다.
