대통령 선거일을 8일 앞둔 26일, 더불어민주당 정은경 중앙총괄선대위원장이 대전 서구의 한민시장과 도마시장을 찾아 이재명 후보에 대한 지지를 호소했다. 

질병관리청장 시절 코로나19 대응의 최전선에 섰던 정 위원장을 알아본 시민들은 “당신 때문에 우리가 살았다”, “그 시절 정말 고마웠다”며 따뜻한 인사를 건넸다.

정 위원장은 유세차에 올라 “팬데믹 극복의 공은 모두 국민의 헌신적인 참여 덕분”이라며 감사의 뜻을 밝히고, “이제는 민주주의를 위협하는 ‘내란 위기’를 투표로 극복할 차례”라고 강조했다.

그는 이번 대통령 선거를 “12·3 내란 사태를 일으킨 윤석열 정권에 대한 심판”으로 규정하며, “내란 이후 민생은 더욱 고통스러워졌고, 정치는 혼란에 빠졌으며 국민은 극심한 불안을 겪고 있다”고 비판했다.

특히 현장 상인들과의 대화를 전하며, “코로나 시기보다 지금이 더 힘들다는 소상공인의 말이 뼈아프다”고 전했다. 이어 “이재명 후보는 지역화폐 확대 등으로 골목경제를 살릴 수 있는 실질적인 대안을 가진 인물”이라며, 위기 속에서도 성과를 입증한 ‘준비된 후보’임을 강조했다.

TV토론에 나섰던 김문수 후보에 대해서는 “역사 왜곡과 무책임한 발언으로 논란을 일으킨 극우 인사에게 나라의 미래를 맡길 수 없다”며, “대전 서구가 극우 내란 세력에 맞서는 변화의 시작이 되어야 한다”고 말했다.

정 위원장은 유세를 마무리하며 “우리는 마스크로 바이러스를 막았다. 이제는 투표로 민주주의의 위기를 막아야 한다”고 호소했다. 그러면서 오는 29일과 30일 예정된 사전투표 참여를 독려하며 “기호 1번 이재명 후보에게 소중한 한 표를 부탁드린다”고 거듭 강조했다.
