국민의힘 충남도당이 23일 더불어민주당 이재명 대통령 후보가 제2 중앙경찰학교 유치와 관련해 충남 아산과 전북 남원 두 지역에 중복 공약을 내세운 데 대해 깊은 유감과 분노를 표명하며 강력히 비판했다.

국민의힘 충남도당은 이날 성명에서 “단 하나의 국가기관을 두고 두 지역에 동시에 유치를 약속하는 것은 명백한 ‘양다리 공약’이며, 유권자를 기만하는 정치적 배신”이라고 지적했다. 

아산시는 경찰대학과 경찰교육원 등 경찰 교육 인프라가 집적된 곳으로, 제2 중앙경찰학교 유치는 국립경찰병원 분원 유치와 연계한 경찰클러스터 조성의 핵심 사업이자 오랜 지역민의 염원이다.

그러나 이 후보가 전북 남원에도 동일한 공약을 제시한 것은 충남 도민의 자존심을 짓밟고 지역 간 갈등을 조장하는 행위라는 비판도 함께 내놨다. 

국민의힘 충남도당은 “지역 균형 발전을 명분으로 내세웠지만 실제로는 선거용 표 계산에 불과한 쇼에 불과하다”며 이 후보와 더불어민주당의 공약 이중 행태를 강하게 질타했다.

이에 국민의힘 충남도당은 이재명 후보에게 제2 중앙경찰학교 유치 지역에 대해 즉각 명확한 입장을 밝힐 것을 요구했다. 

더불어민주당에도 중복 공약이 단순 실수가 아닌 의도된 기만인지 국민 앞에서 해명하고, 충남 도민에게 공식 사과와 책임 있는 조치를 취할 것을 촉구했다. 아울러 아산 지역구 의원인 복기왕·강훈식 의원에게도 침묵하지 말고 분명한 입장을 내놓으라고 요구했다.

국민의힘 충남도당은 “공약은 단순한 표를 얻기 위한 정치적 미끼가 아니라 국민의 삶을 바꾸는 정책의 출발점”이라며 “충남 도민은 표 계산의 도구가 아니다”라고 강조했다. 이어 “더불어민주당이 이번 사안을 단순 해프닝으로 치부하면 공약 전체의 진정성에 대한 국민 신뢰를 잃게 될 것”이라고 경고했다.

끝으로 국민의힘 충남도당은 “충남 도민과 아산 시민은 이번 사태에 실망과 분노를 감추지 못하고 있다”며 “이재명 후보와 민주당은 더 이상 유권자를 기만하지 말고 ‘전라도 텃밭’과 ‘캐스팅보트 충청’ 중 어디를 선택할지 분명히 밝혀야 한다”고 촉구했다.

이번 논란은 국가기관 유치를 둘러싼 지역 간 이해관계와 함께, 후보들의 공약 신뢰도 문제로 확산되며 향후 선거 국면에 적잖은 파장을 불러올 전망이다.
