대전시가 글로벌 클라우드 기업 아마존웹서비스(AWS)와 손잡고, 양자산업 생태계 조성과 기업 경쟁력 강화를 위한 전략적 협력에 나섰다.

이를 위해 대전시는 5월 16일 시청 중회의실에서 AWS와 ‘양자 기술 실증 및 산업화 기반 구축’을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 협약은 양자기술의 연구부터 산업화, 인재 양성, 글로벌 연계까지 아우르는 전방위 협력체계를 수립하기 위한 첫걸음이다.

이날 협약식에는 이장우 대전시장과 윤정원 AWS 코리아 공공부문 대표, 아비나브 세티 AWS 아시아태평양 기술 총괄 등 주요 관계자들이 참석해 양자산업 발전 방향을 공유하고 공동 비전을 선언했다.

협약의 핵심은 AWS의 클라우드 기반 양자컴퓨팅 플랫폼 ‘아마존 브라켓(Amazon Braket)’을 대전 지역 내 대학, 연구기관, 기업 등에 본격 도입한다는 점이다. 

아마존 브라켓은 복잡한 양자 알고리즘 실험을 누구나 클라우드 환경에서 손쉽게 실행할 수 있도록 돕는 완전 관리형 플랫폼으로, 양자기술에 대한 접근성과 활용성을 크게 향상시킬 것으로 기대된다.

이를 통해 지역 내 연구기관 및 비양자기업들도 실제 양자 기술 실험을 직접 수행할 수 있으며, 향후 산업 현장에 적용 가능한 기술로 확장하는 전환 기반을 마련하게 된다.

또한, AWS의 양자 산업 지원 프로그램 ‘퀀텀 엠바크(Quantum Embark)’와 연계해 대전 지역 스타트업 및 중소기업에게 맞춤형 기술 컨설팅과 실증환경을 제공하고, 이를 통해 글로벌 시장 진출 가능성을 높이는 다양한 공동 사업도 추진될 예정이다.

대전시는 이번 협약을 통해 시가 보유한 과학기술 기반 인프라와 AWS의 글로벌 기술 플랫폼을 접목하여 양자기술의 실증 → 산업화 → 확산으로 이어지는 ‘전 주기 생태계’를 구축하겠다는 계획이다. 

나아가, 대전을 양자산업의 실질적인 거점 도시로 성장시키기 위한 초석으로 삼는다는 구상이다.

이장우 대전시장은 “세계 양자과학기술의 해에 AWS와 함께 미래 산업의 주도권을 잡기 위한 첫발을 내딛게 되어 매우 뜻깊다”며 “이번 협약을 통해 대전이 글로벌 양자산업의 핵심 허브로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

윤정원 AWS 코리아 공공부문 대표는 “아마존 브라켓을 통해 대전의 연구자와 기업들이 세계적인 양자 하드웨어에 직접 접근할 수 있게 됐다”며 “AWS는 대전시와 함께 한국 양자 기술 생태계 확산과 국제 경쟁력 강화에 기여해 나갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.
