충남 논산시의 대표적 근대 유산 중 하나인 강경미곡창고가 문화와 예술이 어우러진 복합문화공간으로 새롭게 태어난다. 

논산시는 국토교통부가 주관하는 ‘2025 민관상생 투자협약 사업’ 공모에 최종 선정되며, 총 156억 원(국비 50억, 지방비 50억, 민간투자 56억 원)의 사업비를 확보했다고 15일 밝혔다.

이번 공모는 지방소멸 위기에 대응하기 위한 정부 정책의 일환으로, 민간 주도의 창의적인 사업 구상을 바탕으로 지역 활성화를 도모하고, 공공이 행정적·재정적으로 뒷받침하는 민관 협력형 모델이다.

논산시는 이번 사업을 통해 근대 산업유산인 강경미곡창고를 ‘김인중 스테인드글라스 아트플랫폼’으로 조성한다는 계획이다. 역사적 가치와 예술적 감성이 공존하는 새로운 문화공간으로 재탄생시키겠다는 복안이다.

강경미곡창고는 앞으로 단순한 전시공간을 넘어, 시민과 관광객이 자유롭게 드나들며 예술을 체험하고 소통할 수 있는 열린 문화 플랫폼으로 탈바꿈하게 된다. 특히 스테인드글라스 분야의 거장으로 꼽히는 김인중 화백이 직접 작품을 기증하며 예술적 정체성을 부여할 예정이다.

사업은 2028년까지 단계적으로 추진된다. 주요 계획으로는 예술전시 및 창작공간, 문화힐링 공간, 예술체험 놀이터, 야외 전시장 등 다양한 콘텐츠가 포함되어 있으며, 건양대학교의 기술 자문을 통해 전문성과 실현 가능성을 더할 예정이다.

여기에 지역 향토기업인 이비가그룹이 강경구락부 내 ‘커피인터뷰’ 운영 경험을 살려 관광객 유입과 운영 지속성을 높이는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

백성현 논산시장은 “이번 사업은 단순한 공간 재생을 넘어, 강경의 역사와 예술이 살아 숨 쉬는 문화거점 조성을 의미한다”며 “민간의 창의성과 지역 자원을 접목한 차별화된 콘텐츠 개발을 통해 논산만의 고유한 문화관광 브랜드를 만들어 가겠다”고 밝혔다.
