대전시가 도심 내 유휴공간을 활용해 추진 중인 ‘스마트팜 조성사업’이 본격적인 성과를 거두며 주목받고 있다. 기술 혁신과 사회적 가치 실현을 동시에 아우르며, 대전이 스마트농업의 선도 도시로 부상하고 있다는 평가다.

기술연구형 대전팜을 운영하는 ㈜쉘파스페이스는 농림축산식품부의 ‘K-수직농장 세계화 프로젝트’ 공모에서 총 7개 과제 중 2개가 선정돼 국비 117억 원을 확보하는 쾌거를 거뒀다.

선정된 과제는 고효율 광원 및 인공지능 기반 광조절 시스템을 활용한 모듈형 수직농장 모델 개발 ,북미 북동부권에 특화된 약용작물 재배 수직농장 모델 개발이다. 

각각 대전 농업기술센터와 유성생명과학고, 국내외 주요 대학 및 연구기관들과 협력해 추진된다. 특히 두 번째 과제는 미국 농무부(USDA)도 참여해 글로벌 시장 진출 가능성을 높이고 있다.

이와 함께 쉘파스페이스는 과학기술정보통신부 등 6개 정부 부처가 공동 주최한 ‘국가 기술사업화 비전 선포식’에도 스마트농업 대표기업으로 초청되며 업계의 주목을 받았다.

한편 테마형 대전팜을 운영 중인 둥구나무㈜ 역시 교육 수요 면에서 가시적인 성과를 내고 있다. 스마트농업 체험과 교육 프로그램은 오는 7월 초까지 예약이 이미 마감됐으며, 이는 스마트팜이 농업을 넘어 고부가가치 콘텐츠로 자리 잡고 있음을 방증한다.

특히 둥구나무㈜는 2024년 7월부터 노숙인 자활 지원사업도 추진 중이다. 대전노숙인종합지원센터, 한국자활복지개발원과 함께 거리노숙인을 대상으로 스마트팜 재배 기술 교육과 현장 체험 기회를 제공하고 있으며, ‘버섯종균기능사’ 자격 과정 운영 등을 통해 자립 기반 마련에 기여하고 있다. 

이러한 노력으로 둥구나무㈜는 지난 4월, 고용노동부로부터 사회적기업 인증을 획득하며 사회적 책임을 실천하는 기업으로 인정받았다.

대전시는 이 같은 성공 사례를 바탕으로 현재 2024년 트랙Ⅰ, 2025년 트랙Ⅱ로 나눠 스마트팜 운영사를 모집 중이다. 선정된 업체는 총 4개 유형, 7개소에서 생산시설과 부대시설 구축을 지원받게 되며, 도심 속 새로운 농업 생태계 확산의 중추 역할을 하게 된다.

대전시 관계자는 “스마트팜은 농업의 미래이자 도심 활성화의 해법이 될 수 있다”며 “기술혁신은 물론, 일자리 창출과 사회적 약자 지원이라는 다층적인 효과를 고려해 지속적으로 사업을 확대해 나갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.

The selected projects are the development of a modular vertical farm model using a high-efficiency light source and an AI-based light control system, and the development of a vertical farm model for medicinal crop cultivation specialized in the northeastern region of North America.

Each project will be promoted in cooperation with Daejeon Agricultural Technology Center, Yuseong Life Science High School, and major domestic and international universities and research institutes.
