충남도의회가 13일, 서산 명지중학교 학생 48명과 지도교사 10명이 참여한 가운데 ‘청소년 의회교실’을 열고, 학생들에게 지방의회 의정활동을 직접 체험할 수 있는 기회를 제공했다.

이번 의회교실은 명지중 학생들이 실제 의원 역할을 맡아 모의 의회를 구성하고, 조례안 발의와 토론, 투표 등의 절차를 거치며 지방자치의 원리를 생생히 배우는 시간으로 진행됐다.

학생들은 먼저 의장 선거를 치르며 민주적인 선출 과정을 경험했고, 이어 ‘학교에서 간식 섭취 줄이기’, ‘학교 급식 남기지 않기’ 등을 주제로 자유발언을 진행하며 생활 속 문제의식과 의견을 공유했다.

또한 ‘교내 교복 데이 지정 조례안’과 ‘교내 휴대폰 사용 조례안’ 등 실생활과 밀접한 내용의 조례안을 발의해 찬반 토론을 펼치고, 직접 표결하는 절차까지 참여하며 의회 의사결정 과정을 생생하게 익혔다.

이날 현장을 찾은 김옥수 도의원(서산1, 국민의힘)은 학생들에게 “오늘 경험이 민주주의의 핵심 가치인 참여와 협의를 배우는 소중한 밑거름이 되길 바란다”며, “여러분이 미래의 지역사회와 국가를 이끄는 주체로 성장하길 응원한다”고 격려했다.
