대전시의회(의장 조원휘)가 미래 세대의 시민의식을 높이기 위한 청소년 의회교실을 지속적으로 운영하는 가운데, 5월 13일 송촌고등학교 학생들을 대상으로 한 ‘2025년 상반기 두 번째 청소년 의회교실’이 성황리에 열렸다.

이번 의회교실에는 송촌고 학생 16명과 지도교사가 참여해 직접 ‘일일 시의원’이 되어 지방의회의 입법 과정과 의사결정 절차를 체험했다. 학생들은 실제 의회처럼 안건을 상정하고 자유발언을 이어가며 의정활동을 생생하게 경험했다.

특히 이날 학생들은 ‘과제수행 AI앱 사용범위 기준 마련에 관한 건의안’을 상정해 직접 토론을 벌였다. 

찬반 의견이 분분한 가운데, AI 기술을 과제 수행에 어떻게 활용할 것인지, 그리고 공정성과 창의성을 어떻게 균형 있게 유지할 것인지에 대해 열띤 의견이 오갔다. 이어진 표결에서는 학생 개개인이 실제 시의원처럼 손을 들어 자신의 입장을 밝히며 깊은 참여 의식을 보여줬다.

체험을 마친 학생들은 “의회의 기능과 중요성을 몸소 느낄 수 있었던 소중한 시간이었다”며, “정책이 만들어지는 과정에 대해 배우고 직접 참여할 수 있어서 매우 의미 있었다”고 소감을 전했다.

이날 함께한 이용기 의원(대덕구3, 국민의힘)은 “여러분의 눈빛과 질문 하나하나에서 미래에 대한 가능성을 봤다”며 “오늘의 경험이 지역과 국가를 이끌어갈 책임 있는 시민으로 성장하는 디딤돌이 되길 바란다”고 학생들을 격려했다.

대전시의회는 청소년들이 지방의회의 역할과 중요성을 이해하고 민주시민으로서의 소양을 기를 수 있도록 청소년 의회교실을 지속 운영하고 있으며, 앞으로도 다양한 프로그램을 통해 지역사회와 소통의 폭을 넓혀갈 계획이다.

In this assembly class, 16 Songchon High School students and their instructors participated and became ‘daily city council members’ and experienced the legislative process and decision-making procedures of the local council.
