충남 청양군이 대표 특산물인 구기자의 간 기능 개선 효능을 과학적으로 입증하기 위한 인체 대상 임상시험을 본격화한다.

군은 지난해부터 전북대학교병원과 공동으로 임상시험 설계 및 대상자 모집을 추진해 왔으며, 엄격한 선발 기준 탓에 일정에 다소 차질이 있었지만, 지난달 말 임상 대상자 100명을 전원 모집 완료하며 시험이 본격적인 단계로 진입하게 됐다고 9일 밝혔다.

이번 연구는 2023년 농림축산식품부의 식품 기능성 평가 지원사업에 선정돼 국비 50%를 포함한 정부 지원을 받으며 추진되고 있다. 군은 구기자 추출물을 활용한 인체 적용 시험을 통해 간 기능 개선 효과를 입증하고, 그 결과를 바탕으로 식품의약품안전처에 개별 인정형 기능성 원료 등록을 신청할 계획이다.
