기온 상승과 함께 일부 지역에서 수돗물 유충 발생 사례가 잇따르는 가운데, 대전시 상수도사업본부가 시민 불안을 해소하기 위한 선제적 대응에 나섰다.

대전시에 따르면, 그간 정수 과정에서 유충 등 소형 생물의 유입을 막기 위해 다양한 예방 조치를 시행해온 결과, 현재까지 단 한 건의 유충 사고도 발생하지 않은 것으로 나타났다.

특히 시는 지난해 정수장 배수지 전체 유입부에 미세 여과망을 설치해 외부 이물질의 유입을 원천 차단하는 시스템을 구축했다. 이 외에도 출입문 이중화, 정수장 창문 미세 방충망 설치, 정수공정 운영 방식 개선 등 다각도의 방역 시스템을 마련하며 대응력을 높여왔다.
