대한민국의 과학수도 대전이 새로운 도약을 위한 첫 발을 내딛었다. 

4월 16일, 대전시는 ICT 창업과 시민 교류의 거점인 ‘마중물 플라자’ 건립사업의 기공식을 개최하며 본격적인 사업 추진에 나섰다. 

이번 프로젝트에는 총 337억 원이 투입될 예정이다.

기공식에는 이장우 대전시장, 김영삼 대전시의회 부의장, 시의원, 과학기술정보통신부 관계자 등 120여 명이 참석하여 대전의 과학기술 발전에 대한 기대감을 나타냈다.

‘마중물 플라자’는 한국전자통신연구원(ETRI) 부지 내에 조성되며, 2026년 12월 준공을 목표로 하고 있다. 대지면적 4034㎡, 건축 연면적 8782㎡ 규모로, 창업 지원, 기술 사업화, 시민 교류 기능이 통합된 복합 공간으로 설계된다.

건물은 지상 5층으로 구성되며, 1층과 2층에는 시민을 위한 ICT 전시홍보관, 카페, 강의실이 들어선다. 3층에는 연구 장비 공동 활용센터와 기술지원실이 마련되며, 4층과 5층에는 정보통신기술(ICT) 기반의 창업 공간이 조성된다.

특히 정보통신기술 전시홍보관은 대한민국 ICT 산업의 발전 역사와 미래 비전을 시민들에게 전달하는 역할을 하며, 과학기술 대중화를 위한 전시 공간으로 운영될 예정이다. 연구 장비 공동 활용센터는 ETRI의 시험·검증 장비를 외부에 개방하여 산·학·연의 기술 실증과 사업화를 지원할 계획이다.

또한, 창업 공간은 지역 기업이 입주할 수 있도록 설계되며, 입주 기업에는 임대료 일부를 감면하여 창업 초기의 부담을 덜어줄 예정이다. 청년 창업자와 연구원 예비 창업자를 위한 맞춤형 지원 공간도 마련되어 기업 간 소통과 협업을 촉진할 예정이다.

대전시는 이번 사업을 통해 대덕특구의 우수한 연구 성과가 창업과 기업 성장으로 이어지는 ICT 창업 생태계를 구축하고, 청년 과학자들의 지역 정착을 유도할 계획이다.
