대전시가 시민들의 건강한 여가 생활을 지원하고 서남부 지역의 체육 인프라를 확충하기 위해 13일 서남부종합스포츠타운(1단계 도시개발사업) 개발계획 및 지형도면을 공식 고시했다. 

이번 개발계획은 도시의 균형발전과 함께 체육 인프라 구축, 부족한 임대주택 확충을 위한 미래 비전을 제시하는 데 중점을 두고 있다.

고시에 따르면, 서남부종합스포츠타운의 토지 이용 계획은 공공시설용지(체육시설 포함) 532129㎡(69.7%), 주거 용지 221314㎡(29%), 준주거시설용지 10054㎡(1.3%)로 구성된다. 

이 지역에는 총 4421세대의 주거 공간이 조성되며, 그중 2239세대는 임대주택으로 예정되어 있다. 주요 체육시설로는 종합운동장과 오상욱 국제펜싱경기장이 포함된다.

특히, 이번 개발계획은 친환경 요소를 강조하며, 학하천의 자연환경을 최대한 보존하는 한편, 공공체육시설은 에너지 효율성을 고려해 설계될 예정이다. 또한, 주민들의 접근성과 보행 편의성을 높이기 위해 공원 및 녹지 공간을 체계적으로 배치하여 쾌적한 환경을 제공할 계획이다.

그러나 서남부종합스포츠타운이 완공되면 이용 면적이 1인당 1.89㎡로 증가할 것으로 예상되며, 이는 대전의 공공체육시설 수준을 특․광역시 기준 5위에서 4위로 상승시키는 데 기여할 것으로 보인다.

이 사업은 총 8513억 원이 투입되며, 두 단계로 나뉘어 진행된다. 

1단계 도시개발사업은 2027년까지 6696억 원을 투입해 토지 보상 및 공공주택용지, 체육시설 부지 조성을 완료할 계획이다. 

2단계 체육시설 조성사업은 2029년까지 1817억 원을 투입해 종합운동장 등 주요 시설을 건립하는 것이다.
